Chapter 1040

Shane, looking puzzled and agitated, exclaimed, "You got in through connections! Don't lump me in with you. An adorable guy like me got in on pure merit, okay?"

Unbeknownst to them, Ms. Pennington walked by and overheard their conversation, secretly surprised. Could Frederick, the new employee, know that Shane was the general manager's relative? No, such information couldn't spread through the office. Otherwise, everyone would find out!

Ms. Pennington quickly approached Frederick and said, "Frederick, your internship is terminated. Pack up your things and leave."

"You're kidding me!" Frederick was shocked. Assigned by Emmanuel as a supervisor, he was fired after only two days? What was happening? He could only leave and later ask Emmanuel for an explanation.

Marketing department colleagues witnessed Frederick's dismissal after his altercation with Shane. They concluded Shane had powerful connections.

Ms. Pennington extended a graceful hand to Shane, smiling gently. "Shane, welcome to the marketing department. I'm Ms. Pennington, the department head. Please come to me with any work difficulties."

This astonished the marketing department. Ms. Pennington, known as a cold beauty, had never shown such consideration for subordinates. Shane, pleasantly surprised, shook her hand. "The people here are treating me exceptionally well! I must be the talent they've been longing for!"

The new M&L Group general manager, Henry Houghton, was a former general manager at one of Eve's companies and a trusted confidant. A few days earlier, Emmanuel and Eve had discussed Patrick's termination. To prevent similar incidents, Eve arranged for Henry to assist in managing Emmanuel's company. Henry had just received a call from Eve about Patrick, and her notification that Emmanuel had assigned a new supervisor, urging him to behave appropriately.

Entering the office, Henry wondered who the new supervisor was when he noticed the marketing department surrounding Shane.

A female employee spotted Henry and greeted him respectfully, "Hello, Mr. Houghton!" The marketing department employees quickly dispersed from Shane, collectively greeting Henry.

"Hello, everyone!" Henry replied, his gaze settling on Shane. Shane stood, offering an apologetic smile, too nervous to speak. He recognized Henry—the man he'd bumped into during his interview. This was the general manager! His hard-earned position could vanish.

Henry patted Shane's shoulder, smiling. "You're the new employee, right?"

"Mr. Houghton, yes I am!" Shane apologized, "I'm sorry for bumping into you in the elevator earlier!"

"It's nothing, don't worry. Be less formal; we're colleagues!" Henry replied warmly.

Ms. Pennington witnessed this exchange, confirming her suspicions that Shane was related to Mr. Houghton. She resolved to treat him well. The other employees, witnessing Henry's interaction with Shane, quickly returned to their work.

Henry quietly asked Shane, "Young man, do you know Emmanuel?" (Emmanuel was the company's true boss, a secret known only to high-level executives like Henry, including Ms. Pennington.)

Shane looked astonished. "Mr. Houghton, how did you know? He's my senior!"

Henry was stunned. He knew it!

This revised version corrects grammatical errors, improves sentence structure, removes unnecessary repetition, and enhances clarity and flow. The informal "Well, I'll be d*mned!" was removed as it doesn't fit the overall tone. The repeated section was also removed.
