Chapter 851: A Bold Promise and a Drastic Move

“Our shareholder, Joseph Walker, is right. We’re in a difficult situation after terminating our cooperation with the European company. Without substantial investment soon, Terence Group faces bankruptcy!”

“I don’t understand why the Quillen family would hide their cutting-edge energy technology.”

“Exactly. If Ms. Quillen insists, I’ll sell my shares and withdraw my investment!”

The shareholders grew agitated, creating a chaotic atmosphere. Mackenzie felt overwhelmed. The Oatley family had struck at a critical moment.

“Manny, can you help my sister?” Beatrix pleaded softly, leaning close to Emmanuel.

Desperate, she hoped her brother-in-law could work a miracle. She'd unknowingly placed unrealistic expectations on him.

Emmanuel felt heartbroken for his wife and frantically searched for a solution. Unskilled in business, he had to find a way to help.

“Alright!”

Mackenzie, unable to bear the pressure, knew that if the shareholders sold their stock and withdrew their investments, Terence Group would collapse, leaving her and her grandfather powerless.

To her surprise, Emmanuel spoke first. “Rest assured, everyone. Even without the Oatley family, we can quickly find an alternative extraction company. This won’t affect the timely delivery of our energy products!”

What?!

The room was stunned. Mackenzie included. Does he know what he’s saying? Is he aware of Terence Group’s situation?

While the Oatley family’s extraction technology wasn't a monopoly, competing companies were controlled by a mysterious financial consortium. Terence Group couldn't secure an alternative quickly.

Ignoring this, he confidently continued, “Mackenzie and I guarantee we'll maintain last year's profits and increase them by ten percent. Don't worry about dividend income!”

Oscar sneered. “Who do you think you are? Do you think we'll believe you?”

Beatrix, frustrated, stamped her foot. Even I don’t believe it! Terence Group barely avoids bankruptcy, and now he claims a ten percent profit increase? That means over 3.3 billion in net profit this year?

“Well, can you believe me then?” Mackenzie stood, her expression icy and serious.

Silence fell. Even Lexi, outside the door, was shocked. Ms. Quillen has never been so impulsive.

“Mackenzie, are you joking?” Oscar asked, his smile strained.

“Have I ever joked with you?” She left him embarrassed and annoyed.

Silence fell again. Even Lexi, outside the door, was shocked. Ms. Quillen has never been so impulsive.

“Mackenzie, are you joking?” Oscar asked, his smile strained.

“Have I ever joked with you?” She left him embarrassed and annoyed. He snorted.

“Alright, then. If this year’s profits don’t exceed last year’s by ten percent, I’ll resign out of guilt! Meeting adjourned!”

She left the conference room.

Chapter 852: The Quillen Family’s Verdict

The shareholders were speechless. Mackenzie, as CEO and largest shareholder, held considerable sway.

News of the meeting quickly reached Terence. Before leaving the company, Mackenzie received a call from her grandfather, summoning her and Beatrix to the Quillen residence.

“Be prepared,” Mackenzie told Emmanuel, driving their Maserati. “It might be a grilling.”

She felt conflicted. She didn’t believe Emmanuel’s bold claims, but as his wife and Beatrix's sister, she had to support him.

“I understand,” Emmanuel replied, his expression solemn but calm. He understood what they faced, possessing an unusual calmness.

Mackenzie found his composure intriguing. He doesn't seem like a failed retired soldier at all!

At the Quillen residence, the family awaited. Aunt Stephanie (lawyer), Aunt Sofia (deputy city leader), Aunt Samantha (jewelry executive), and Aunt Sophie all had varying expressions of disapproval, while Aunt Hannah openly glared with hatred. Felicity’s expression was complex.

Terence, the family head, stated, “Mackenzie, Emmanuel, report on the shareholder meeting.”

The meeting was crucial to the Quillen family’s fortune.

“Yes, Grandpa,” Mackenzie replied coldly, recounting the events concisely.

Hannah immediately reprimanded Emmanuel. “How dare you hit someone? Oscar is Mackenzie’s uncle!”

Beatrix intervened. “Don’t blame him; blame me! Oscar started it, and Emmanuel retaliated. He also presented evidence leading to Oscar's arrest!”

Terence, fair and decisive, ruled, “He bullies my Quillens, he pays. Good riddance to a troublemaker.”

“Thank you, Grandpa,” Emmanuel said. “It was spontaneous.”

Sophie scoffed. “Spontaneously spout nonsense? You know energy extraction technology can be easily blocked! How dare you make baseless claims?”

Hannah added, “You boasted; you solve it. Fail, and leave the Quillen family! You’re disgusting!”

Chapter 853: A Different Way of Expressing Her Belief

Hannah’s harsh words demonstrated her disgust. Emmanuel felt uneasy; her aversion could affect his relationship with Mackenzie. Mackenzie, however, discreetly observed Emmanuel’s reaction.

Samantha worried about Mackenzie. “If this isn't resolved, Terence Group will face bankruptcy. Let’s find a solution.”

“Aunt Samantha, no need to worry,” Mackenzie interjected. “As CEO, I’ll handle this.”

“Mackenzie, do you have a solution?” Samantha asked hopefully.

Mackenzie nodded gravely. Sophie and Hannah grew angrier at her defense of Emmanuel.

Moira, rarely involved, asked for confirmation. Mackenzie hesitated; she had no solution.

Terence knew that desperation had driven the Quillens to the relatively weak Oatley Corporation, who then betrayed them. He, an experienced businessman, was helpless, let alone his granddaughter.

“Don’t worry, I have a solution,” Emmanuel said confidently. “If you all think I’m unworthy of Mackenzie and want me to leave her, I’ll take responsibility. If I succeed, you won’t say such things again!”

What?

Felicity saw him in a new light. She’d previously looked down on him, but now, his bold offer surprised her. Does he have hidden abilities?

“Emmanuel, do you know what you’re saying?” Beatrix asked anxiously. She didn’t care if he deserved Mackenzie; she wanted her sister happy.

“I know!” Emmanuel replied solemnly. Turning to Mackenzie, he said, “Mackenzie, I hope you believe me this time!”

Mackenzie, internally conflicted, saw the sincerity in his eyes and simply replied, “Whatever!” It was her way of expressing belief.

Chapter 854: Recognition

Hannah readily agreed. “If you resolve this, I won’t oppose you two.”

Sophie scoffed, “If Hannah doesn’t object, then it doesn’t matter.”

Terence, having the final say, told Emmanuel, “We’ll have a family meeting. Emmanuel, you may leave for a while.”

Emmanuel left, still feeling unwelcome and unrecognized by the Quillens. He longed for a normal relationship with Mackenzie.

The Quillens discussed raising funds as a precaution. Terence Group had a multi-billion-dollar market value, requiring significant resources to stabilize its stock price.

Stephanie offered 60 million. Moira, as deputy mayor, could only contribute 60 million to avoid scrutiny. Samantha offered at least 225 million, shocking the others. Felicity’s assets paled in comparison.

Terence asked Sophie and Hannah, who offered 70 and 45 million respectively. Samantha turned to Felicity.

Felicity, tightly gripping her skirt, said, “I don’t have any money!”

Hannah exclaimed in astonishment. Samantha slammed her hands on the table. “Felicity, did you come back to take advantage of us? You’re always proactive when there’s something to gain, but silent when we need help?”

Mackenzie watched her mother, torn between intervention and silence.

Hannah exclaimed again. Samantha said, “Felicity, what do you mean by that? Did you come back to the Quillens just to take advantage of us? Whenever there are things to be divided in the Quillens, you are the most proactive, but when it comes to raising money in difficult times, you just sit back and do nothing.”

Mackenzie watched her mother, torn between intervention and silence.

“Felicity! Since you are unwilling to help us, then leave! The Quillens don’t need someone like you!” Samantha pointed to the door.

The tension escalated. The family’s disgust for Felicity surpassed their disdain for Emmanuel. Felicity gripped her thighs, suppressing her anger. Why is Samantha so harsh to me, but not Emmanuel?

Chapter 855: Cross My Fingers

Sophie and Hannah echoed Samantha’s sentiments.

Felicity finally erupted, slamming her fist on the table. “You’re one to talk. You Quillens have never given me real power or financial aid! You give me nothing! Not even a share of my husband’s inheritance! Now you need money, you remember me? Where am I supposed to get it? From the Lenoirs to help you?”

“Some of you are shameless.”

Mackenzie interrupted, “That’s enough!” Her calm authority silenced them. “Keep your money. I’ll find another way.”

She left. The Quillen sisters and Felicity sneered.

Terence, weary of the conflict, retreated to his room with Alfred.

Alfred consoled Terence, “Old Mr. Quillen, you wanted to pass the baton to the younger generation. What are you worrying about?”

Terence sighed, “The challenge is overwhelming. I fear they lack the experience.”

“But I have faith in Emmanuel and Ms. Mackenzie,” Alfred replied. “You’re too involved to see things clearly. Remember Emmanuel’s attitude? He wouldn’t be so confident if he was bluffing.”

Terence nodded. Emmanuel’s confidence had impressed him.

“Relax,” Alfred continued. “Trust your judgment. Since there’s no turning back, cross your fingers.”

Emmanuel waited for Mackenzie in the courtyard.

Chapter 856: Trust Me Just This Once

Mackenzie arrived, scolding Emmanuel. “Are you out of your mind? How could you say such things twice? Do you know what a technology blockade is?”

Emmanuel, after processing her words, replied, “Anyway, I’ll handle this matter—”

They both blurted out, “That’s my line!”

Mackenzie laughed, a rare sight. Emmanuel was mesmerized. Beatrix, having followed them, witnessed the interaction.

Chapter 857: Emmanuel’s Quest for Nathan Chapman

Beatrix, initially worried, was surprised by their lightheartedness. Is this the power of love?

Mackenzie, regaining her composure, asked, “How are you going to handle this? If we can’t find a company in five days, we’ll face penalties.”

Emmanuel, nodding firmly, said, “It shouldn’t be a problem.”

Mackenzie stared at him, searching for a hint of jest.

Emmanuel squeezed her shoulder. “Mackenzie, trust me this once. I genuinely care about you, so I wouldn’t joke about this!”

His declaration of love stunned her. He drew closer, about to kiss her, when Beatrix whimpered, realizing what was about to happen and quickly covering her mouth.

Mackenzie snapped out of it, pushing Emmanuel away and asking Beatrix what was wrong.

Beatrix apologized and fled, regretting ruining their moment.

Mackenzie glared at Emmanuel. He changed the subject, suggesting they leave. She sneered before walking to the Maserati.

The next morning, after dropping Mackenzie off, Emmanuel checked his phone and received a call from Sage.

“Emmanuel, thanks to you, Ashton has identified Sebastian’s murder suspect!”

“Who is it?”

“Magnus’ bodyguard. Taking him down will be a challenge,” Sage said.

Emmanuel chuckled. “Sage, you defeated the White Hawk. Who’s there to be afraid of?”

Sage smiled. “Emmanuel, that was in my prime. You’re our only hope.”

“Who is he?”

Chapter 858: Emmanuel’s Assurance

“Do you recall Ezekiel Hodges?” Sage asked.

“Him? Of course. I sparred with him; his moves were flawless,” Emmanuel replied.

“Yeah, only you could match him. The suspect effortlessly defeated Ezekiel. His name is Blake Dotson,” Sage explained. “He works for Magnus. He was near Sebastian’s vehicle on the day of the accident, but without direct evidence, we can’t prove his guilt. Magnus is a major complication.”

Emmanuel understood. “Without solid evidence, it’s hard to take someone from Magnus, right?”

“Exactly,” Sage affirmed.

“So, you want me to help?” Emmanuel asked.

“Mr. Lowe, could you help?” Sage pleaded. “Ashton is almost crazy.”

“Have her come to me,” Emmanuel said. “But I have something more important and urgent.”

“What?”

“Can you help me reach Nathan Chapman?”

“The eldest son of the Chapman family?” Sage chuckled. “Why? Aren’t you worried he’ll bug you again?”

Emmanuel explained Mackenzie’s company’s need for extraction technology.

“Alright, I’ll find him today!” Sage replied.

Chapter 859: Persuade Julian to a Blind Date

That afternoon, Emmanuel received Nathan’s location: a private island.

“What? You’re leaving Yeringham for a few days?” Mackenzie asked, surprised.

“Yeah, Mackenzie. Trust me,” Emmanuel said. He couldn’t reveal details due to confidentiality and to protect Mackenzie.

“Emmanuel, whatever method you’ve got, you really don’t have to do this!” Mackenzie said. She didn’t want him to leave.

Emmanuel, placing his hand on her shoulder, said, “Mackenzie, listen to me. I know you’re smart and capable. But as a husband, I should ease your burden, cherish you, and protect you. It’s my responsibility and my right!”

Mackenzie was moved. “Do whatever you want. Just come back soon!”

“Yeah, I’ll be back as soon as possible!” He paused, noticing her lips. Remembering the awkward kiss, he hesitated. She leaned in and kissed him. He was surprised. After two seconds, she pulled away, her heart pounding.

Chapter 860: The Guilty Dog Barks the Loudest

Fortunately, Emmanuel didn’t pursue it further.

The next morning, Emmanuel left for the airport. Mackenzie arrived at work to find Ashton waiting. Ashton had four cases needing Emmanuel’s help: Claudette's missing body, the Ferris wheel incident, the restaurant poisoning, and Sebastian's murder.

“Ms. Quillen, where is Emmanuel?” Ashton asked.

“Why are you looking for him?” Mackenzie replied.

“I need his help in solving a case!” Ashton said arrogantly.

“Sorry, that’s your business. My man is very busy!” Mackenzie retorted.

“I can tell you, but there is one condition!” Mackenzie said.

“What condition?”

“Isn’t your brother Julian still single? I want to arrange a blind date for him. If you agree to persuade him, I will tell you where Emmanuel is. How about that?”

Ashton, wanting her brother to find a girlfriend, hesitated. Mackenzie, seeing through her, said, “If you don’t want to, then forget it!”

“Hey, hey, wait! I agree!” Ashton quickly agreed.

Wally found it amusing. Mackenzie had won.

“Emmanuel has gone abroad to Barill Island in Yeternia,” Mackenzie said.

Ashton, anxious, asked when he left, what he was doing, and when he’d return. Mackenzie only confirmed his location.

“Hmph, they are such an annoying couple!” Ashton stomped her feet.

Emmanuel arrived in Yeternia and went to a currency exchange. A man and a woman cut in line, the woman stepping on his foot. He politely reminded her, but she ignored him, then slapped him when he repeated himself in another language.

“Dear, this pervert touched me! Teach him a lesson!” the woman screamed.

Her boyfriend, a muscular man, punched Emmanuel, who dodged. The punch hit the wall. People scattered.

Emmanuel, pointing at his damaged shoe, said, “You’re Chanaean, aren’t you? You cut in line, slander others, and even tell your man to physically assault someone else. You’re an insult to Chanaea.”

Those with a sense of justice testified for Emmanuel. The couple’s reputation was tarnished. The woman’s face turned red with embarrassment and rage.
