Chapter 930: Brace Yourself
The next morning, Emmanuel woke up and had breakfast with Mackenzie while watching the news. He was shocked to see himself on television. The headline read, “Beautiful CEO’s Wife Bullied; Husband Takes a Stand for His Beloved!” It was incredibly attention-grabbing. The news report showed footage of Emmanuel’s fight with Eddie from the previous day, with the anchor portraying them as a loving couple.
After the report, Mackenzie continued eating the breakfast Emmanuel had lovingly prepared, her face expressionless. Emmanuel, however, was surprised.
“Mackenzie, why is this news report so strange?” he asked.
“What’s strange about it?” Mackenzie feigned ignorance.
“The focus should have been on your efforts to save the Terence Group. Why is there such a long segment about me?” Emmanuel pressed.
“How should I know? I’m not a journalist,” Mackenzie replied nonchalantly.
Emmanuel sensed something was wrong, but lacked evidence.
“I’m done. I’m going to Grandpa’s for a while,” Mackenzie said, standing abruptly.
“I’ll drive you,” Emmanuel offered.
“No need. I’ve asked Wally to pick me up. You can have some free time today!” she said before leaving.
Emmanuel still felt something was amiss, but he had no proof.
After leaving the house, Mackenzie’s expression turned gloomy. Samantha had summoned her home. While Samantha hadn't explicitly asked her to leave Emmanuel, Mackenzie, being intelligent, guessed her aunt's intentions: there was something to discuss regarding Emmanuel.
Mackenzie hesitated, but she was close to Samantha, and the discussion seemed beneficial for both of them.
She soon arrived at the Quillen residence. Before entering the villa, she saw Felicity tending the flowers in the front yard, appearing peaceful and content—a stark contrast to her usual self. This transformation surprised Mackenzie.
Seeing Felicity, Mackenzie, despite the awkwardness, called out, “Mom.”
Felicity froze, then turned, tears welling in her eyes as she recognized Mackenzie and her use of "Mom." “Mackenzie, you’re back!” she exclaimed.
Before Felicity could continue, Samantha and Hannah arrived, flanking Mackenzie and ushering her inside. Mackenzie glanced back and saw Felicity smiling—a surprising and heartwarming sight. The smile eased Mackenzie's apprehension; perhaps Felicity wasn't the villain everyone had assumed.
“Aunt, why did you call me back?” Mackenzie asked directly after entering Hannah’s room. (Note: The repeated sentence was removed.)
After exchanging a glance, Hannah and Samantha approached Mackenzie, gently taking her hand. “Mackenzie, what we’re about to tell you requires some preparation.”
Mackenzie's brow furrowed slightly. “Go ahead, then,” she replied coldly.
“Alright. Brace yourself.”
