Chapter 68

Cedric spoke earnestly, and even Scarlett was moved. “Lettie, I should stay. You still need someone to look after you.” Cedric’s face was filled with emotion. Scarlett shook her head. “No. The Payne Group still needs you. You can’t leave! Besides, we won’t have time to find a suitable replacement. With Grace here, everything will be fine.” After Scarlett finished speaking, Cedric pretended to hesitate before finally agreeing. “Lettie, since you have so much faith in me, I won’t let you down!” With those words, Cedric gave a decisive nod. Previously, he had been passive, but now that he had the upper hand, things had changed. Scarlett stifled a yawn. Cedric’s heart ached even more for her. “Lettie, you should get some rest. I’ll go back and start preparing right away,” he said. Scarlett gave a slight nod in response.

After Cedric left, Scarlett gazed out the window, a sense of helplessness washing over her. She hadn’t been fully unconscious the night before and had heard Leroy’s voice. It was clear he had been there too. Why had Cedric lied to her? Scarlett couldn’t make sense of it. As dawn broke, she remained wide awake. Staring at the door, she couldn’t help but hope that Leroy would be the one to check on her. Unfortunately, Scarlett was disappointed when she saw who entered the room. It was Zoe.

Scarlett’s expression immediately shifted, and she couldn’t help but blurt out, “Why are you here?” Realizing her mistake a moment later, she quickly looked away. Zoe snorted. “Who else could it be if not me? Mr. Olson couldn’t make it. Did something happen to you last night?” Zoe asked, her curiosity piqued. It was a shame that Zoe hadn’t been there the night before. She would have enjoyed seeing how miserable Scarlett was. “It’s all because your hospital didn’t take proper care of me. If they had, I wouldn’t have ended up like this,” Scarlett complained. Upon hearing that, Zoe sneered. “Ms. Payne, I think you’re mistaken. Wasn’t it because you ate something bad?” Then, Zoe feigned surprise. “Could it be that Cedric didn’t tell you anything? Come to think of it, why would Cedric tell you something that isn’t in your best interest?” Zoe shook her head and sighed. Once she finished speaking, she turned and walked away. “The patient is fine. Let’s check on the other patients,” she said before leaving with the others. As the door closed behind them, a bitter taste filled Scarlett’s mouth. Something happened to Leroy? Scarlett was filled with curiosity and confusion. What happened to Leroy?

Meanwhile, Leroy was being dragged to a café by Yvonne. With a smile, Yvonne said, “Leroy, it wasn’t easy getting you out.” Then, she sighed softly. Startled, Leroy quickly explained, “The hospital’s been really busy lately. I’m sorry for keeping you waiting.” Yvonne shook her head. “Leroy, I understand that the hospital has been hectic. Don’t worry about it.” Then she stood up. “Let’s go. We have a lot to do today.” Yvonne smiled, but Leroy frowned slightly. “Yvonne, I need to go back to the hospital,” he said. Yvonne looked at him and was momentarily stunned.
