Chapter 69
“I asked Mrs. Olson, and she said you were supposed to be off today,” Yvonne said, noticing Leroy’s face flush with embarrassment.
“Well, a special patient came in last night, and I was the one who performed the surgery. I was just a little worried.”
As he spoke, Leroy couldn’t bring himself to meet Yvonne’s eyes. He was afraid she might catch the panic in them.
Yvonne nodded slightly. “Leroy, you’re so responsible. No wonder everyone has such high hopes for you as a doctor.”
“The patient is the priority. You should go check on them.”
Yvonne smiled, remaining unaware of Leroy’s anxieties.
Leroy let out a sigh of relief. After paying, he quickly rushed to the hospital.
Zoe had just finished her rounds when she spotted Leroy waiting.
“Mr. Olson? Why are you here? I thought you were off today.”
Zoe looked puzzled, but Leroy simply smiled. “You know how I feel about the hospital. I just couldn’t stay away.”
He scratched his nose absentmindedly, but Zoe suddenly fell silent.
“Mr. Olson, it’s just the two of us here. Are you thinking about getting back together with Scarlett?”
Her tone was serious, and Leroy immediately shook his head.
“You silly girl! Where did you get that idea from?”
Three years had given him enough time to see everything clearly. Now, he no longer had any feelings for Scarlett.
“As a doctor, I must always do my best for my patients,” he sighed. “What happened last night is partly our fault.”
Zoe frowned. “Mr. Olson, isn’t all of this because Cedric insisted on bringing his own soup? I’ve already spoken to Scarlett. We should let her see for herself how the people around her are nothing but trash.”
Having said that, Zoe shook her head.
Leroy was startled. “You told her?”
Zoe gave a slight nod. “Of course I did. She…”
Leroy’s eyes flickered. “She even blamed us for it. With my temper, how could I just let it slide?” Zoe snorted.
“If the hospital had conducted a thorough examination, maybe Scarlett wouldn’t be in this condition. And we failed to explain the necessary precautions at the time.”
When Leroy finished speaking, Zoe’s initial arrogance faded, replaced by confusion.
“Mr. Olson, so it really was our fault?”
Zoe’s mind went blank. She had said those things earlier that day. Hadn’t this just made things worse?
For a moment, Zoe felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
Leroy raised an eyebrow.
“Now that you understand, let’s go.” With that, Leroy stood up.
Zoe was startled. “Mr. Olson, where are we going?”
Watching Leroy’s actions, she started to feel a sense of unease. The next moment, Leroy walked over to her.
“Of course, we’re going to apologize to Ms. Payne and explain the necessary precautions. Do you want another incident to happen?”
After Leroy spoke, Zoe couldn’t help but feel a twinge of resentment. However, considering her position, she reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Scarlett sat in the ward, still seething with resentment. She hadn’t expected the hospital to be so indifferent. But when she thought of Leroy, her heart grew heavy with conflict.
Why was he being so cold now?
“Check on the patients,” a voice called out from the doorway.
