Scarlett returned to the hospital, feeling conflicted. To her surprise, she found Leroy waiting. “What are you doing here?” Her demeanor softened slightly as she gazed at him in the corridor. Yet, her facial expression remained frosty.
Leroy shook his head. After glancing at his watch, he looked up, his expression contemplative. “One minute.”
Scarlett felt puzzled. In the blink of an eye, a minute had passed. Suddenly, she began to tilt and tremble, feeling intense pain in her legs.
Leroy looked condescendingly at her as she tried to get up. “Ms. Payne, I’ve arranged for a wheelchair. I know this journey is challenging. The pain will last until the day after tomorrow.”
He appeared calm, but struggled inwardly. Reflecting on Scarlett’s earlier resistance, he chose not to help her.
Scarlett’s face had already turned ashen when the nurses approached with the wheelchair. She remained silent, yet her demeanor reflected an unwillingness to surrender.
At the same time, she questioned Cedric’s honesty. She didn’t believe he would lie, but their memories made her feel that he truly loved her. Yet, the photos shown by the board suggested otherwise. Scarlett wondered if the images were real or if she was being deceived. Now, she was unsure.
The sharp sting of pain returned, pulling Scarlett back to reality. She gazed at Leroy, shaking her head. She was determined not to let him witness her disheveled state and insisted, “I’m fine. You all can leave now.”
However, Leroy disagreed. “I’m your doctor, Ms. Payne. I need to understand your condition.”
Scarlett’s expression twisted into a sneer; her eyes turned icy. “Dr. Olson, as you can see, I’m perfectly fine. You may leave now.”
Leroy glanced at her. “Ms. Payne, if you don’t require any assistance, I’ll take my leave. Should you need anything, feel free to call the nurse.”
Having said that, he turned and walked away, with the nurses following.
Scarlett frowned as she watched them leave, feeling her heart ache with each step. The emotional pain was stronger than any physical hurt.
That night, Scarlett was emotionally troubled while Cedric grew more anxious at the villa. “Mom, we need to get rid of Leroy and keep him away from Scarlett.”
Valda was doubtful. “Do you truly believe that Leroy is capable of this?”
She shook her head, recalling Leroy’s appearance. It was clear she doubted his capability. With that thought, she brushed it off with a wave of her hand.
“Let me take care of this. After all, Leroy is a doctor. We simply need to focus on this to solve the problem.” A glimmer of confidence sparkled in Valda’s eyes.
Cedric slowly regained his senses and contemplated the situation. He realized what Valda said was true.
“I’ll contact your cousin right away. She happened to be in Ashbourne recently.”
Cedric was surprised. “Is she here too?”
