Chapter 92

“Doctor, please save me!” Xenia exclaimed, rushing toward Leroy and gripping his arm. His pristine white coat was instantly stained with blood.

Cedric urged, “You have to see Lettie first. You can attend to this woman afterward.” He then prepared to pull Leroy away. Leroy, however, looked back at Zoe and instructed, “Prepare the stretcher and begin the treatment.” His command sprang those around him into action; Cedric was quickly pushed aside. Though dissatisfaction flickered in his eyes, Leroy’s intense focus eased his frustration.

While the others were occupied, Cedric returned to the ward. Scarlett continued to endure the pain, each breath a sharp stab. Noticing Cedric’s disappointed expression, she feigned calm. “What’s happening outside? Why is it so noisy?”

Cedric sighed, taking a seat. “It’s because of Leroy. He promised to check on you but saw another patient instead, making you wait. He clearly doesn’t care. I think he never took you seriously.”

Scarlett frowned. “Perhaps the patient’s condition is more critical. Cedric, if you have nothing pressing to attend to, you should go home first. I’m concerned Mrs. Reid might feel lonely without you.”

Cedric’s eyes reflected deep disappointment; a heavy sigh escaped his lips. “Lettie, are you trying to drive me away? Did I do something to upset you? Otherwise, why are you avoiding me? Or have you been misled by someone else?”

Scarlett replied, “I wasn’t misled. Too much has happened lately, and I still have to deal with the board. I’m feeling drained.” She chose not to reveal the truth, remaining skeptical about the photos and compelled to conduct her own investigation.

Cedric, initially disappointed, quickly smiled. “Lettie, I respect your choice. If you need anything, just let me know.” He left with a heavy heart.

Scarlett sighed as the ward door closed. The situation felt surreal. She believed Cedric had always loved her.

Outside the ward, a smile lit Cedric’s face. “Scarlett, I’m eager to see if you’ll still waver like this after witnessing Leroy’s miserable state.” He glanced up, catching a glimpse of Xenia being taken to the next ward.

Leroy had changed his clothes. The operation was so simple even Zoe could manage it. Now, all that remained was to wait for the patient to regain consciousness and settle the bill.

Cedric remained outside, a smirk playing on his lips, his eyes mocking. “Dr. Olson, you’re incredibly busy, but you must be more cautious. If the person you’ve rescued decides to turn against you, it could spell trouble.”

Zoe retorted, “Not everyone behaves like you do.”

Cedric smiled. “Ms. Black, I’m doing this for the sake of your hospital. I’ve witnessed similar situations many times. Look at that woman’s behavior. She may not even acknowledge it after you save her.”

Zoe grew more anxious. Cedric had never been one to do anything out of the goodness of his heart.

She said, “Mr. Olson, don’t be fooled. Let’s ignore people like him.”
