Chapter 130
Helene saw Gilmore as an invincible hero, his halo glowing brightly in the sunlight. He seemed impossibly tall and powerful. Her heart pounded; she couldn't help but admire him even more. The onlookers, realizing what had happened, applauded. "Well done!" they cried. "How could he think of committing murder and trying to grab a girl in broad daylight! Such evildoers should be punished!"
Gilmore cupped his hands, bowed, and said, "Thanks for everyone's support!" Then, meeting Helene's admiring gaze, he walked toward her. For some reason, her heartbeat quickened as he approached. He bent to pick up her dropped phone.
"Helene, are you alright?" Gilmore waved his hand in front of her face. Recovering quickly, Helene blushed, remembering how smitten she had been. She answered, "I I'm okay. Give me the phone. I'll call the police now." Gilmore must have noticed it! she thought. So embarrassing! She wanted to cover the awkward moment by calling the police.
Gilmore returned the phone and watched as she called. She hadn't expected him to stare. Her heartbeat accelerated again. Uncomfortable under his gaze, she teased, "Turn around! I can't call when you're staring at me!"
Gilmore was confused. "Why can't Helene use the phone when I look at her? When did she become so shy? Women are really such a mysterious species!" he mused. He turned around.
The onlookers didn't disperse; they even took out their phones to photograph Clive. Needless to say, these photos were destined for TikTok and Instagram.
Helene ended the call and, seeing Gilmore's back was still to her, said gently, "You can turn around now."
Gilmore turned, looked at Helene, and asked, "Finished?"
He added, "I just witnessed everything. So we can get the evidence of Clive’s savage attack on her. You don't need to deal with it yourself."
Helene nodded. "Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
Gilmore believed it wouldn't be difficult for her. He waved goodbye and left. Watching his receding figure, Helene felt sad. She saw him hail a taxi and drive away.
Soon, two police cars arrived at Horizon Group.
Gilmore took a taxi to the Field family manor and then drove away in his BMW (parked there because he'd driven Helene and her father home earlier; they'd later taken a helicopter to Horizon Group). He'd entered the manor with Graham and Helene, so no one stopped him on his return.
After leaving the manor, Gilmore rushed to the hotel where Lilian was staying. At the Star Hotel, 5th floor, Room 10, he knocked. "Lilian, it's me, Gilmore."
"I'm coming," Lilian replied. The door opened, and she appeared. Gilmore hugged her.
Lilian said softly, "What are you doing? The door's not closed yet."
Gilmore smiled and closed the door with one hand, then turned and pressed Lilian against it.
"Gilmore, you what are you doing?" Lilian's heartbeat quickened; her face flushed.
Gilmore smiled. "My dear, something quite romantic." They kissed passionately for a long time, until Lilian, breathless, pushed him away. "Gilmore," she said shyly, her face flushed, "could we just continue tonight?"
Gilmore understood and nodded.
He just wanted to kiss her when he saw her at the hotel, but he could control himself. They sat on the sofa. Lilian gradually calmed down and looked at Gilmore. "Gilmore, where did you go after you left me? Did you think of a way to deal with Clinton?"
Gilmore smiled. "You might not believe it, but Clinton is screwed."
Lilian asked suspiciously, "He's screwed? How did you do it?"
Gilmore explained how he'd saved Helene, revived Graham at the hospital, and how Graham had thwarted Clinton's conspiracy at the board meeting. Lilian was shocked. She hadn't expected Gilmore to put Clinton in jail so quickly. He'd done what he promised: defeat Clinton.
When she'd calmed down, she asked, "How did you know where Helene's villa was?"
Gilmore smiled and replied, "I hired a private detective to tail Clinton two days ago. So I managed to work out his actions. When his men tailed Murdoch and found Helene's hideout, I was aware of it." (Actually, there was no detective; he lied because he couldn't tell Lilian he could see everything with his "God's Eye.")
Lilian didn't doubt him. She nodded. "I see!"
"By the way, Lilian, Mr. Field invited me to dinner tonight. Will you come with me?" Gilmore asked.
Lilian immediately shook her head. "He invited you, not me. I'd feel uncomfortable having a meal with such a rich family. I'd rather have dinner with Mr. Hamilton and my other girls."
Gilmore didn't press her; he also didn't want to dine with the Field family.
At seven o'clock, Gilmore left the hotel and drove to the Field family manor.
This revised version corrects grammatical errors, improves sentence structure, and removes inconsistencies. The excessive use of "heartbeat quickened" was reduced for better flow. The fragmented final section was also integrated more smoothly.
