Chapter 131
The Field family manor was brightly lit. Gilmore followed Murdoch inside. Graham sat on the living room sofa.
“Mr. Reed, my distinguished guest, please sit down,” Graham said, standing and smiling.
Gilmore hurried forward. “Mr. Field, you’re too kind. I’m flattered!”
Graham smiled. “Mr. Reed, don’t be shy. Make yourself at home.”
Gilmore was uneasy. So the Field family manor is my home? Does he want me to be Helene’s husband? he thought. Helene is beautiful and perfect. Marry her? That doesn’t sound so bad. These were just his thoughts, however. He knew Graham’s words were polite.
“Thank you, Mr. Field,” Gilmore said, sitting on the sofa.
Graham sat down. “Murdoch, tell the servants to bring the dishes. Also, go upstairs and tell Helene that Mr. Reed is here.”
Murdoch left. Graham poured tea for Gilmore from a Brown Betty teapot. “Mr. Reed, please try this.”
Gilmore nodded, took a sip. The tea was sweet and pure, with a lingering fragrance. It was wonderful, comparable to the Earl Grey Christine had left in the Palazzo.
“Mr. Field, this is excellent tea!” Gilmore praised sincerely.
Graham chuckled. “It seems you’re a tea connoisseur.”
Gilmore quickly shook his head. “No,…”
Suddenly, the sound of high heels echoed from the stairs. Gilmore looked up, surprised.
Helene descended, her long hair flowing, wearing a red strapless dress. Her shoulders and waist were slender, her legs long. Red high heels graced her feet. She looked beautiful, noble, fashionable, and elegant—a peer to the most beautiful actresses, a goddess. She walked elegantly toward Gilmore, seeming sweet and happy to have his attention. She had clearly dressed for him. As the saying goes, a woman adorns herself for her lover. Gilmore was clearly drawn to her beauty. Helene was delighted.
“Gilmore, you’re here,” she smiled.
He was momentarily stunned. Oh my God, he thought, even a man as determined as me is almost entranced. She’s so charming. But his strong will prevented him from being captivated. He calmed down. “Yes, I just arrived.”
Helene almost laughed at his composure, but suppressed her smile. The effort of dressing up hadn't been in vain.
Murdoch entered from the dining room. “Mr. Field, the dishes are served. Please come to the dining hall.”
Graham nodded. “Gilmore, Helene, let’s go.”
They went into the spacious, luxuriously decorated dining hall. A round mahogany table held delicious dishes. They sat, and Murdoch served them.
“Come, Gilmore, eat,” Graham said.
“Thank you, Mr. Field,” Gilmore replied.
Helene picked up a piece of chicken and placed it in Gilmore’s bowl. “Gilmore, have some chicken,” she said softly.
He was surprised. Her action felt like a girlfriend caring for her boyfriend.

Gilmore said, "Thank you." They began to eat.
"Gilmore," Graham said during the meal, "Helene told me Clive wanted to cause trouble for you after you left the company."
"Don't worry about that. I've already hired a lawyer. Clive won't be released from prison for ten years, so he can't hurt you," he reassured.
Gilmore smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Field." He wasn't worried; he was highly skilled in martial arts, far more skilled than Clive, and had effectively ended Clive's fighting ability in their previous encounter. Clive couldn't possibly take revenge.
Graham looked at him. "Gilmore, I want to ask you something, but I don't know how you'll respond."
"Go ahead, Mr. Field," Gilmore replied.
Graham looked at him sincerely. "My son was the company's vice president, but he's been arrested. The position is vacant. Would you like to be my vice president?"
Gilmore hadn't expected this. While many dreamed of the position, he wasn't interested.
"Mr. Field, thank you for thinking so highly of me, but I'm still studying at Oakhaven University, and I don't want to neglect my studies. Please forgive me for refusing."
Graham was surprised. He didn't pressure him. "Gilmore, since you want to finish your studies first, I won't pressure you. But because you helped me, Helene, the Field family, and the Horizon Group, I'll hold this position for you."
Gilmore quickly said, "Mr. Field, I've already said that everything I did was just what I should do. Please don't think about it. The position of vice president should be reserved for someone with great talent."
"Gilmore, I've been in business for decades, and I never break my promise. Since I said I'll hold the position for you, I'll keep my word," Graham said seriously. Helene added, "Gilmore, my dad has never gone back on his word."

Gilmore could only say, "All right." He didn't intend to work for the Horizon Group, but he could cooperate with them in the future.
Forty minutes later, they finished the meal. Gilmore bade farewell to Helene and her father.
Graham stopped him. "Gilmore, I have something for you."
Murdoch entered with a portfolio. He handed it to Gilmore. "Mr. Reed, this is from Mr. Field."
Gilmore opened it. "What's this?"
"Gilmore, go back and take a look," Graham said mysteriously.
