Chapter 37

At the hospital, Philip received five stitches on the back of his head. The only good thing was that Philip, Sheila, and Beth had calmed down enough to talk properly.

Nda sat on the couch with her arms crossed, her expression dark. “Eleanor is definitely behind this!”

“Ed harte hei!” Philip snapped. “This happened after she gave me a warning this morning. There’s no way it’s not her!”

Sheila snorted. “If you hadn’t done this in the first place, she wouldn’t have been able to drag some bastard out of nowhere, even if she wanted to!” Philip still couldn’t wrap his head around it. “But how did Eleanor even know about the…?”

No one had an answer. But Brenda was determined to settle this with Eleanor.

She suddenly remembered that, at this point in her past life, Eleanor had been about to leave for a business trip, and something else had happened. Renda narrowed her eyes, a ruthless glint flashing in them.

“Eleanor, I won’t let you keep getting your way. You don’t know anything you can’t escape from me,” she thought.

An ice-berry pink sports car was parked in a large parking spot. Inside, Eleanor was scrolling through group chats filled with gossip about Philip and his family when she suddenly sneezed. Tossing her phone onto the passenger seat, she grabbed a tissue to blow her nose before opening the door to step out of the car.

She was craving a cup of coffee to warm up. Ever since November hit, the weather had been getting colder and colder. But she was in a great mood, so even the chilly wind felt refreshing.

Eleanor hadn’t shown up at the company in days, and Brenda had vanished too. They were probably too afraid to set foot in the office and get laughed at behind her back. So, they might as well stay away for a while.

Without those two eyesores around, even work felt enjoyable. She practically treated the company like her personal playground, showing up in a different haute couture outfit every day. Today, she wore a blue velvet gown with a slit at the hem, lace-trimmed edges, and a pearl belt cinching her waist. The whole look was vintage and elegant, making her look like a princess. Just as Eleanor was about to pull open the door to Starbrew, a voice called out from behind.

She turned, only to see…

She glanced at his leg, noticing that it had already healed.

“What do you want?” Eleanor added flatly.

He walked up to her. “Need to talk to you.”

“Talk, then,” she said impatiently.

Maurice didn’t look as furious as he had been at the restaurant last time. On the contrary, he actually seemed hesitant… almost awkward.

Eleanor was still waiting. What was this guy aiming for now?

Maurice pressed his lips together. “I just wanted to say that I didn’t give Mallory the hospital record.”

“Oh, and?”

Maurice scratched the back of his head, looking uncomfortable. “I just don’t want you to misunderstand. I do hate you, but I wasn’t trying to see you over. And I take responsibility for my actions. I would’ve admitted it if I hadn’t.”

Eleanor had already figured that out ages ago. She wasn’t interested and didn’t want to hear his nonsense.
