Chapter 23
In an instant, Brynn’s live channel exploded with Golden Lions from DJHS once again. The fans went wild, flooding the chat with messages. The excitement in the live channel skyrocketed to an all-time high:
(Whoa! This DJHS is amazing!) (This is too satisfying!) (Now THIS is voice acting! And that KylieXOXO? That forced, squeaky voice? Please!) (LMAO! KylieXOXO sounds like a chipmunk and dares to call it voice acting?) (DJHS is the real MVP!) (That KylieXOXO is just trash, how does she even have the nerve to compare?)
Brynn’s fans were on fire. They knew Brynn was absolutely crushing it. On the other side, Kylie’s fans were stunned into silence. Eventually, many just slunk away from Brynn’s live channel in embarrassment. After all, anyone with ears could tell who had real talent. Some of the fans in Kylie’s own live channel, seeing the obvious difference, couldn’t handle the humiliation and left.
To make matters worse for Kylie, even her top gifter—who had been leading her rankings—was so impressed by Brynnie Bee’s performance that they switched sides and started showering BrynnieBee with gifts. This nearly drove Kylie mad. That was her fans, her top gifter! Now she had lost both face and money.
Just then, Maris entered the room carrying a fruit platter. She was about to tell Kylie to have some fruit when she noticed the dark, stormy expression on her daughter’s face.
“Kylie, what’s wrong? Who made you angry?” she asked.
Kylie quickly muted her microphone, then turned to Maris with teary eyes, looking utterly pitiful.
“Mom, I was in a live battle, but my opponent is just some low-class escort. She’s awful! And now she’s using her fans to attack me just to steal my fans,” Kylie sniffled, looking as if she were about to cry.
Hearing this, Maris’ expression darkened. She set down the fruit platter and immediately pulled out her phone to check Kylie’s live channel. Sure enough, the chat was filled with nasty comments about Kylie. Seeing these people bully her precious daughter, Maris was furious.
“This is outrageous!” she mumbled. Without hesitation, she recharged three hundred thousand dollars into her account and began frantically sending gifts, pushing Kylie’s rankings back up. The sudden flood of gifts revived Kylie’s dwindling live channel, bringing in a fresh wave of viewers.
“Don’t be scared, sweetheart. Mom’s here!” Maris reassured her, stroking her hair. “Let’s see who dares to insult you now.”
Kylie’s fans erupted with excitement. Here came another top gifter!
“Thank you for the gifts, Mom!” Kylie unmuted her microphone and began to show off in front of the camera. “My Mom is the best!”
Kylie’s fans couldn’t help but exclaim:
(Wow! Kylie is a true rich heiress!) (Does Kylie’s mom need another daughter? Pick me!) (I’m so jealous! Having such a wealthy mom is the dream!) (This is insane!)
Brynn, meanwhile, was also watching this unfold. Seeing Maris repeatedly throwing money at Kylie’s live channel, her heart sank. She had always known that their mother played favorites, but she never expected it to be this blatant. Thinking back to all the times she had scrimped and saved just to make their mother happy—giving her all her savings to buy gifts—only to watch that same money being thrown at Kylie now just to soothe her ego… Brynn felt a bitter sting in her chest.
But what made her even angrier was the arrogance Maris displayed in the live channel.
“My precious daughter deserves to be spoiled,” she declared proudly, waving to the camera. “Unlike certain poor nobodies who have to sell themselves for money.”
Brynn let out a cold laugh and immediately fought back. “Like mother, like daughter. Both of you only know how to spread disgusting rumors, huh?”
“Rumors?” Kylie’s mother scoffed. “Did I say anything false? My daughter doesn’t need to rely on pocket change from strangers!”
“Pocket change, huh?” Dominic, watching the chaos, couldn’t help but chuckle darkly.
Declan was already fuming. “This old hag is too arrogant. Time to show them what real ‘pocket change’ looks like.” Without hesitation, Declan started sending gifts, one after another. And Dominic, still expressionless, simply clicked on the most expensive gift options to tip Brynn.
In mere moments, the rankings flipped. Brynn’s team completely crushed Kylie’s side.
“What the…?” Kylie’s jaw dropped in shock. She had never expected Brynn’s top gifters to be this rich. Even after Maris had spent that much, they were still outmatched.
Panic-stricken, she turned to Maris, looking pitiful. “Mom, they’ve overtaken me! Do something! Otherwise, I’ll be humiliated!”
Maris still had about three hundred thousand dollars left, so she gritted her teeth and recharged all of it. As she sent another wave of gifts, she reassured Kylie, “Don’t worry, I won’t let you be embarrassed! Let’s see if they can keep up now!”
She assumed the other side must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel just to keep up with them. But just as she had this thought, the other side once again countered with an even bigger wave of gifts—double the amount.
Then, to make matters worse, the second-highest supporter in Brynn’s stream, a user named “CandySweety,” sent a message:
(Oh? Aren’t you guys supposed to be rich? Keep going then!)
Maris was completely dumbfounded. She never imagined the other side would have this much money. A deep sense of embarrassment washed over her—because she had already emptied her personal savings. She knew that if she wanted to send more, she would have to explain it to Randy, and he would surely scold her. That was out of the question.
Meanwhile, noticing Maris’ hesitation, Kylie felt a surge of disdain in her heart. ‘Seriously? She’s the wife of the head of the Everett Group, and can’t even come up with a few million?’ Kylie thought with displeasure. She had seen other wealthy wives spend tens of millions like it was nothing. Why was her mother so useless?
Of course, she couldn’t voice these thoughts aloud. Instead, she put on a gentle, understanding look and softly said, “It’s okay, Mom. I’m used to being mocked anyway. It’s no big deal. You don’t have to keep competing.”
Maris had originally been about to give up, but when she saw Kylie looking so pitiful and understanding, her heart softened again.
“It’s fine, Kylie. Brynn had once set up a bank card with a million dollars and shared it with me. We’ll use the money to win the PK,” Maris comforted Kylie as she tapped on her phone to continue sending gifts.
Seeing Maris furiously tapping at her phone, Kylie’s heart leaped with joy. At the same time, she couldn’t help but sneer inwardly at Brynn’s stupidity. ‘Brynn, you absolute fool!’ she thought. ‘Who told you to share your savings with Mom? You totally deserve to have your money used for me.’
But soon, Kylie noticed Maris’ expression freeze. She couldn’t access the money on that bank card.
Kylie frowned. “Mom, what’s wrong?” She was nervous. Was the money… gone?
