Chapter 41
When she heard that, Kylie was stunned. Everyone else was just as shocked. They thought, ‘Oh gosh! Brynn’s invitation was actually handwritten by Declan, the eldest son of the Suncrest Group! That’s some serious honor right there.’
“Isn’t Brynn the fake heiress of the Everett family? How did she hook up with Mr. Harper?” someone asked.
“What’s the relationship between them?” another person chimed in.
“Could it be that Brynn’s dress was designed by Mr. Harper himself?” someone else guessed.
People at the scene were whispering and speculating about the relationship between Declan and Brynn. At the same time, they were throwing mocking glances at Kylie, the one who had tried to “expose” Brynn.
As Kylie felt completely humiliated, Declan suddenly turned his attention to her. “If I remember correctly, the Suncrest Group didn’t send an invitation to the Everett Group. So how did you guys get in here?” With Declan’s words, everyone’s focus shifted to the Everetts.
Some people were puzzled, saying, “Why did Mr. Harper personally write an invitation for Brynn but not send one to the rest of the Everett family? Is there some hidden story we don’t know?”
At that moment, someone who had arrived late spoke up, “Don’t you guys know? The Suncrest Group didn’t send invitations to anyone else in the Everett Group except for Brynn!”
The crowd found it unbelievable. “Is that true?”
That person said firmly, “It’s true! And I heard from someone at the Everett Group that Mr. Everett even threatened Ms. Everett to hand over her invitation!”
Someone started to exclaim, “Oh my! That’s way out of line!”
Another person agreed, “Exactly! He isn’t much of a father!”
Kylie’s face turned pale when she heard the discussions around her. She thought, ‘How could Dad and Mom do this? They knew Brynn’s invitation was real but didn’t warn me at all. They made me look foolish on purpose.’
Kylie’s face drained of color, and she quickly tried to hide her invitation. Someone with a sharp eye saw her invitation and immediately noticed that it was different from theirs.
But before they could voice their doubts, Randy spoke up first, “Mr. Harper, we got our invitation through the Johnson family’s connections, and it’s definitely real!”
Declan raised an eyebrow slightly. “The Johnson family? Which one?”
“Of course, it’s the Johnson family from Portmare,” someone nearby who knew the situation replied before the Everetts could speak.
Declan laughed immediately. “Sorry, I only sent invitations to the Johnson family from Eaglemont. I never gave one to the Johnson family from Portmare.”
Chase, who had just arrived, changed his expression when he heard this and was about to leave, but Kylie spotted him.
“Chase!” Kylie’s shout made everyone follow her gaze to Chase.
Feeling the attention on him, Chase cursed inwardly. He never had a good impression of Kylie, and now he felt even more disgusted.
But Kylie didn’t notice. She walked over to Chase, linked her arm with his, and said, “Chase, you have to explain! My parents and I came with your invitation, but everyone thinks it’s fake!”
Chase was stunned, wondering, ‘When did I ever give Kylie an invitation?’ He was about to speak up, but his gaze caught Kylie subtly touching her stomach.
The onlookers, seeing their intimate gesture, started talking.
“That’s weird. Isn’t Chase supposed to be Brynn’s fiancé? Why is he so close to Kylie now?”
“Huh? You’re so out of the loop!”
“What do you mean…”
Seeing that many people still didn’t know, someone who loved to stir up trouble eagerly told them about the scandalous story of Chase running away on the wedding day.
Hearing this, Chase looked embarrassed but walked up to Declan with a forced smile and said, “Mr. Harper, the invitation for the Everett family was from the Johnson family in Eaglemont, so it might look different from others.”
Hearing this, Declan revealed a meaningful smile. “You say your invitation is from the Johnson family in Eaglemont. So, what’s your relationship with President Johnson?”
Chase’s body stiffened at these words. He couldn’t let these people from high society know his father was Antonio’s illegitimate son. So he quickly laughed and replied, “We are just relatives.”
“Relatives…” Declan sneered. “I’ve never heard of the Johnson family having such relatives before.”
With these words, the atmosphere at the scene froze once again. Chase’s expression became even more awkward. At the sight of this, Kylie felt her heart race.
