Chapter 70
Brynn ended the call with Senior, but as she gazed out the window, her thoughts involuntarily drifted back to ten years ago…
“Hey, old man! I saved you, and this is how you repay me?” A teenage Brynn glared at the middle-aged man, her face puffed up with indignation. She had found him by the riverbank, half-drowned, and had dragged him to shore out of kindness, even performing CPR to save his life. But the moment he recovered, he turned around and kidnapped her right after school, dragging her into this little wooden cabin and forcing her to read medical books!
Not only that, but he also made her identify different medicinal herbs—it was exhausting!
“You little girl, isn’t this my way of repaying you?” The middle-aged man grinned. “Do you have any idea how rare these medical books are? You wouldn’t be able to buy them even if you had a fortune.”
Brynn still looked sulky.
“There are people out there desperate to learn medicine from me, and I’m not even willing to teach them,” the man huffed proudly.
“That’s them, not me! You’re totally ungrateful! Do you even know how much homework I have every day? Where would I find the time to learn medicine?”
That guy just didn’t expect that. He never would have thought that, as the renowned Divine Doctor, he’d one day be at the mercy of a little girl.
In the end, to make Brynn willingly study medicine, he had to pull out all the stops—bribing her with snacks, promising fun outings, and using every trick in the book. Only when Brynn genuinely started to love learning medicine did the Divine Doctor finally sigh in relief, grateful that she had stopped giving him such a hard time.
Thinking back on her time with her master, Brynn couldn’t help but smile. Those days with him had been some of the happiest moments of her childhood.
But later… something happened. Young and unwilling to accept it, she had wanted to investigate his death. But at that time, the Everett family was also in crisis, and she had no choice but to put her investigation on hold.
But now…
“Since I have nothing to do with the Everett family anymore, it’s time to resume my investigation,” Brynn murmured to herself.
As she pondered this, she suddenly remembered that her master had mentioned a name before he died.
“A name… What was it?”
It had been so long that her memory had blurred. But she was certain she had recorded everything in a small notebook. She hurried into her bedroom and pulled out the suitcase she had packed when leaving the Everetts. Opening it, she found a black notebook tucked into a side compartment. Flipping through it, she quickly found the name.
A quick online search later—
“A professor at Aurelius University?” Brynn’s eyes flashed. “A medical expert…” It seemed she would need to make a trip to Aurelius University soon. But once she got there, how would she even approach this person? Although she had applied to Aurelius University back then, she hadn’t ended up attending, nor did she know anyone there. Perhaps she could approach them through the medical field? But she didn’t have any connections in the medical community either…
Just as Brynn was grappling with these thoughts, her phone—resting beside her laptop—suddenly rang. For what felt like the hundredth time today. She couldn’t help but think—so many people were looking for her today.
“Ms. Everett, sorry to bother you.”
It was Dr. Caldwell, the hospital director.
Brynn was slightly surprised. “Dr. Caldwell… Well, did something happen with Mr. Blaze?”
“No, no, Mr. Blaze’s condition is stable,” Dr. Caldwell quickly assured her. “This is actually a personal matter.”
A personal matter? Brynn was even more puzzled. She wasn’t particularly close to Dr. Caldwell—what personal matter could he have with her?
“It’s a bit embarrassing to bring up,” Dr. Caldwell continued, “but a close friend of mine would like to meet you…”
