Chapter 69
After ending the call with Dominic, Brynn felt much lighter. The chill in her heart, caused by the Blaze family, slowly faded, replaced by a gentle warmth. She glanced at the table filled with food, chuckled softly, and prepared to continue her meal. But just as she took a bite, her phone rang again.
Picking up her phone, she saw an unknown number. Brynn hesitated for a moment before answering.
“Hello?”
“Brynn, be careful. Keep a low profile,” a deep male voice came from the other end. “There’s a mysterious force looking for you.”
Brynn’s lips, originally curved into a smile, gradually flattened. Her expression remained calm. “Got it. I’ll be careful.”
“They almost tracked you down. I helped erase your traces.” The voice on the phone sighed. “Brynn, maybe it’s time to reveal your identity. At least that way, you’d be in the open, and those after you wouldn’t dare make a move so easily.”
“No,” Brynn rejected the suggestion without hesitation. “Not until I uncover the truth behind our master’s death.”
Her master’s death had always been a thorn in her heart. Until she pulled it out, she wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully. And even in death, her master wouldn’t rest easy.
“You… Sigh, forget it. Do what you want.” Her senior let out a helpless sigh. He wanted to persuade her, but he knew Brynn too well. She’s so stubborn—once she set her mind on something, not even ten oxen could pull her back.
Just as he was about to hang up, something else crossed his mind. His tone shifted as he asked, “Oh, right. I saw on the news that you randomly married some guy at your wedding. What’s that about?”
Weren’t Brynn and Chase together for years? How did she suddenly end up in a flash marriage?
“It’s… a long story,” Brynn sighed, shrugging helplessly. She then briefly recounted Chase’s betrayal and how she impulsively decided to marry someone on the spot.
“That was reckless!” His voice shot up several octaves.
Brynn coughed lightly, feeling a bit guilty. “My husband is actually a good guy. He treats me really well.”
“You-! ” He could hear the subtle affection in her tone as she defended this sudden husband of hers. Swallowing back his frustration, he forced himself to hold his tongue. “This is all Chase’s fault!”
If Chase hadn’t cheated and humiliated Brynn on their wedding day, she wouldn’t have made such an impulsive decision.
“Don’t worry, Brynn. I’ll make sure to teach that bastard a lesson for you!”
Hearing that, Brynn immediately stopped him. “Senior, don’t act rashly. What if you expose yourself?”
“But you suffered such humiliation!”
“It’s fine, really. It’s all in the past,” Brynn softened her voice, trying to reassure him. “Please, don’t get yourself into trouble because of me.”
Since she insisted, her senior reluctantly agreed. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
…Of course, he wouldn’t. He could endure anything, but not seeing Brynn suffer. Besides, he was confident he wouldn’t get caught. Chase? That scumbag deserved what was coming.
As for this new husband… No matter how much Brynn insisted the guy was decent, he wasn’t convinced. What if he was just a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Brynn was too soft-hearted and easily deceived. He had to do a thorough background check—make sure this guy wasn’t just another Chase in disguise.
“Oh, by the way, what’s your new husband’s name?”
Brynn blinked. “Why do you ask?”
“Come on, my junior sister got married. I should at least know my brother-in-law’s name, right?” His tone was lighthearted, perfectly masking any ulterior motives. “Bring him out sometime so I can check him out for you.”
“Alright, next time for sure.” Brynn didn’t suspect anything. “His name is Dominic Johnson.”
Brynn’s senior paused for a moment. Johnson again? Yeah, he definitely needed to dig deeper.
