Chapter 96
“There’s nothing to be nervous about.”
Just as Josh was becoming increasingly flustered, Brynn’s voice cut through the laughter around him, reaching his ears clearly. “Don’t think of this as a competition. Right now, you’re just a doctor. Your job is to heal and help your patients.”
Josh looked up at Brynn, and the moment their eyes met, his shaky hands, which had been trembling in panic, finally steadied. Brynn seemed to possess a certain kind of magic; whenever he felt afraid or insecure, hearing her encouraging words and locking eyes with her gave him an inexplicable sense of calm.
“Now, focus and take the patient’s pulse. Figure out the cause of the illness.”
Josh nodded, gently placing his hand on the patient’s wrist. He cleared his mind of all distractions, closed his eyes, and focused on feeling the pulse. “…The pulse is floating, like a twig on water; it’s strong when lifted but weak when pressed.”
Two minutes later, Josh frowned and made his judgment. It was a floating pulse. Brynn, who had been watching Josh closely, was a bit surprised when she heard his diagnosis. To be able to determine the pulse condition so quickly showed he had a solid foundation. He should have been thriving in traditional medicine, so why was he at the bottom of the class?
Brynn thought for a while, then remembered that Josh’s father had been in and out of the hospital frequently, and the family faced heavy medical bills. She began to form a vague guess.
Meanwhile, Thomas, who had already finished examining his patient, confidently spoke up, sharing his diagnosis with the crowd. “I know exactly what the patient has. Based on my examination, he’s suffering from a vascular tumor, and his condition is critical. He needs surgery immediately!”
“Impressive! No wonder he’s the dean’s top student,” the crowd below couldn’t help but praise. “Yeah, to be able to figure out the patient’s condition in such a short time, he’s definitely going to make a name for himself in the medical field!”
While the excitement was building on the other side, Josh, after hearing Thomas’s diagnosis, couldn’t help but frown. His face flashed with hesitation and confusion, and he stood there in silence, lost in thought.
“Look at the guy from the Traditional Medicine College, he’s probably frozen in fear.” “Haha! Their medicine is slow, and so is their diagnosis. They’re like a bunch of snails.” “Such a joke!”
Hearing the mocking comments from the Asclepius Medical College students, Josh’s friends, including the golden-haired boy, started to panic.
“Josh, what are you doing? Are you going to say something or just stand there like an idiot?” “Yeah, don’t just stand there like a fool. If you can’t do it, step aside and let me take over.” The golden-haired boy was losing his patience. It was fine to yell at Josh, but insulting traditional medicine was crossing a line.
Being mocked by the students from the Asclepius Medical College and shouted at by his own friends, Josh began to doubt his own judgment. Among all of them, only Brynn noticed that Josh had already made a diagnosis of the patient’s condition. He was just being held back by external distractions, unable to trust his own judgment. Sigh, this little brother was just too insecure.
“Josh, believe in yourself!” Brynn shouted at him. “Don’t let anyone disturb you. Speak your diagnosis and treatment plan with confidence!”
Josh stared blankly at Brynn. She continued to comfort him, “Don’t be nervous, and don’t treat this like a competition. As a doctor, you need to follow your heart. For you, this is just a pure act of healing, nothing more.”
