Chapter 235: Washing His Shirt in the Middle of the Night

Gu Qichen's expression shifted so rapidly that Xia Yangyang was taken aback. The man in bed lounged comfortably, a triumphant smile playing on his lips. Xia Yangyang finally understood; his earlier attitude had been an act.

Her expression changed abruptly. She stood calmly, looking down at him. Gu Qichen raised an eyebrow, sensing her coldness. "What are you doing?"

Xia Yangyang stomped on his stomach. "Obnoxious man!" Although fueled by frustration, she didn't stomp hard, mindful of his recent recovery.

Afterward, she lay back on the bed, crawled under the covers, turned her back, and ignored him. Gu Qichen lifted the quilt. "Are you angry?"

It wasn't exactly anger, but rather a mix of relief and annoyance after her initial worry—a complicated blend of emotions stemming from feeling deceived.

Gu Qichen decided against further teasing. He went to the bathroom, but remained inside for a long time. Xia Yangyang surmised he lacked clothes. He likely felt distraught, unwilling to wear the clothes Xia Weiwei had brought or the ones he'd already worn twice.

She peeked cautiously from under the quilt, watching the bathroom door. She was curious to see how he would emerge; he couldn't possibly stay in there all night, could he?

Finally, Gu Qichen came out, but to Xia Yangyang's dismay, he was completely naked, wrapped only in her small, thin white towel. The outline of his body was vaguely visible.

Xia Yangyang's face instantly flushed crimson. She buried her face in the quilt, refusing to look. Gu Qichen quickly lay down beside her, appearing tired.

She soon heard his even breathing; he was asleep. However, Xia Yangyang couldn't sleep. Anyone would find it difficult sleeping next to a completely naked man, even if that man was her husband and exceptionally handsome. She remained as far from him as possible, on the edge of the bed. For the first time, she suffered from insomnia with Gu Qichen sleeping beside her.

Unable to sleep, she carefully lifted the quilt and went to the bathroom. Gu Qichen, exhausted from days of accumulated work and resulting moodiness, had slept restlessly. Yet, he’d fallen asleep quickly tonight. However, her getting up woke him. He wondered where she was going.

After a long while, with only rustling sounds emanating from the bathroom, Gu Qichen got up, wrapped himself in his quilt, and approached. He discovered Xia Yangyang washing his shirt. It was already clean, but lacking a dryer, she was using a hairdryer.

Gu Qichen felt an indescribable warmth surge through his heart. He instantly regretted his actions. He watched for a long time before finally entering the bathroom, covering her with the quilt.

Startled, Xia Yangyang turned to find Gu Qichen kissing her. Unlike before, this kiss was gentle and tender.
