Chapter 14: The Invisible Poor

The staff searched for another five minutes but couldn't find her supposed brother.

Trevor sighed. "Does being poor make me invisible? They're acting like I'm not even here," he thought, as everyone ignored him.

Finally, ignoring their judgment, he strode toward Evie. Raising his chin, he said, "Sister, Dad asked me to come and have you sign the contract."

Silence fell. All heads turned; wide eyes stared at him.

Whispers rippled through the room: "What's wrong with him? Is he insane? How could he claim to be her brother?" "You're right. He doesn't look the part. His clothes are worth less than a hundred dollars. How could he be related to Miss Sanderson?"

They spoke as if he weren't present, eyeing him with disbelief and disdain. Then, it dawned on them: Trevor was the only stranger.

Everyone held their breath, listening intently, waiting for Evie's response.

"Why didn't you call when you arrived, Trevor?" The coldness on Evie's face softened into a gentle smile.

A collective sigh of relief, mixed with surprise, swept the room. Evie's tranquil expression was a rare sight, like the first breath of spring.

Henson was confused. "Howhow could it be possible?"

Ignoring Henson, Trevor said to Evie, "Sister, is this your suitor? I don't think he's a good candidate. He tried to hit me."

"Mr. Sanderson, I" Henson began, attempting a hurried explanation.

Evie snapped, "Enough! Henson, I'm not unreasonable. If you want to renew the contract, you must make me happy first."

"Tell me what to do, Miss Sanderson, and I will," Henson replied immediately, taking a deep breath.

The gentle look on Evie's face faded, replaced by a knowing smile—a queen about to crush an enemy. She pointed to the Tesla parked nearby. "Your car is blocking my way. It inconvenienced me in finding my brother."

Henson's lips pressed together. After a long hesitation, he gritted his teeth. "Since it inconvenienced you, I'll smash it!"

He strode to his car, grabbed a stick, and smashed the windshield. He glanced at Evie; she showed no sign of stopping him. He smashed it again.

Fifteen minutes later, the luxury car was totaled. Panting and sweating, Henson returned. "Are you satisfied, Miss Sanderson?"

"No, I'm afraid not. You almost kicked my brother." Evie's tone grew colder.

"II see." Henson's face paled. He took a deep breath, then raised the stick and struck his own leg, muffling a scream.

Stunned silence filled the room. Gasps escaped some; they hadn't expected this.

"How about now?" Henson asked, his voice trembling.

Evie looked at Trevor. "Is that enough, brother?"

Trevor, surprised she addressed him—Evie was quiet at home, but domineering with outsiders—quickly replied, "Yes, that's quite enough."

Evie smiled, produced a checkbook, and wrote. "Here's a check for two million dollars. Buy yourself a new car, Mr. Cairon."

Turning to a security guard, she said, "Get someone to drive Mr. Cairon home. Mr. Cairon, discuss the cooperation with my brother after your leg recovers."
