Chapter 114
The Fox family suffered a terrible tragedy. Their entire family was killed: his father beheaded, his mother taking her own life to preserve her honor. Dustin read Lucas's letter:
My greatest regret is arriving too late. Otherwise, the Fox family would not have been destroyed. I feared you'd be dragged into this bloody feud, so I sent you to an orphanage. But someone found you, forcing me to keep you close. I treated you as my son, teaching you everything I knew.
Dustin clenched his fists, his eyes burning with rage. He'd always believed himself abandoned; the revelation of a blood feud was a shock. The words, "Your father was beheaded, and your mother took her own life to preserve her honor," echoed in his mind. His family had done nothing wrong; they possessed the signet ring, which others sought, leading to their brutal murder.
"I swear on my life I will avenge them!" he vowed.
He continued reading, hoping to identify his enemies, but Lucas revealed no names, only this:
Dustin, I’m not concealing this, but your enemies are too powerful. Even my relentless efforts failed; I was too weak. The most formidable are beyond my reach. For ten years after my death, do not pursue them. After ten years, if you surpass me, proceed as you wish.
Finishing the letter, Dustin’s face fell. His adoptive father had been gone only three years. Seven more? He couldn't wait; the Fox family couldn't wait. He feared no enemy, no matter their strength.
He took the emerald signet ring—a Fox family heirloom, entrusted to him by Lucas—and left the secret room. He sensed danger ahead and stopped, unsure what lay hidden.
Chapter 114 (Continued)
Lucas's letter had warned him of the danger, given his current strength. Dustin left the secret room with the signet ring.
The Wyatt sisters were incredulous at his unharmed return. "Dad said the secret room was deadly. How did he do it?" Delia exclaimed, disappointed. Clara, whose plan had failed, was in a foul mood. But seeing the signet ring, their eyes fixed upon it.
"Dustin, that's ours! Give it back!" Clara shrieked.
"Thief! It's not yours!" Elisa added.
"Give it back!" the four sisters demanded aggressively.
"It belongs to the Fox family. It's always belonged to me," Dustin replied coolly, wanting only to leave.
Amara blocked his path. "Ungrateful bastard! You've been in the Wyatt family for years, stealing our treasure!" The others moved to stop him.
"Get out of my way!" Dustin snapped. He stepped forward, a gust of wind seeming to surge around him, sending the Wyatt sisters sprawling. He left without a backward glance.
Livid, Amara shouted, "Dustin, you'll regret this! We won't let you keep what's rightfully ours!"
Clara hissed, "I swear you'll return that ring in tears!"
