Dustin looked up at the sky and sighed. He felt lost. Until that moment, he had devoted himself to the Wyatt family. Suddenly, he had been cast out, leaving him adrift.
A car horn beeped. A vintage car pulled up to the gates. A beautiful woman in a long white dress emerged. Dustin recognized her: Simone Langley, whose life he had once saved. He had pursued her would-be assassin, who had taken Simone hostage. Dustin had killed the assassin, saving her life.
"Mr. Fox," Simone said gently, extending a hand with a smile, "please come with me. You saved my life. Now that the Wyatt family has expelled you, won't you join the Langley family? We've fallen on hard times, but we'll give you the best we have!"
Dustin was captivated by her warmth, a stark contrast to the Wyatt sisters' cold indifference. It had been a long time since he'd felt such kindness. Almost instinctively, he said, "Alright."
Overjoyed, Simone ushered him into the car. "How did you know I was dismissed?" Dustin asked.
Simone blushed, whispering, "I've been following your situation" She added, "Mr. Fox, the Langley family can't compare to the Wyatts, but I hope you won't find it beneath you"
Dustin grinned. "Why would I? I'm grateful you're taking me in. And please, call me Dustin."
Simone nodded. The Langley family, once wealthy and successful, had fallen on hard times. Their villa showed signs of neglect. As Simone led Dustin inside, the Langley family greeted him warmly.
"Mr. Fox, welcome to the Langley family," said David Langley, Simone's father, with a warm smile. "Consider this your home."
Simone's mother, Monique Langley, added a kind smile, "From now on, consider this your home."
David instructed Simone's younger sister, Camille, "Camille, clean your room for Mr. Fox. You can stay in the study."
"Dad, it's already clean," Camille replied with a smile. "Mr. Fox can move in immediately."
Dustin, shocked by their hospitality, protested, "There's no need. I can sleep anywhere."
David and Monique, adamant, rejected his polite refusal. "That won't do! You saved Simone's life!"
Dustin, touched by their kindness, accepted their offer. He reflected on his sacrifices for the Wyatt sisters— countless times risking his life, only to be dismissed as useless. In contrast, he'd saved Simone only once, yet the entire Langley family treated him like a hero. The contrast was both heartbreaking and moving.
That night, Monique prepared a celebratory feast. The warm meal filled Dustin with happiness and love.
Suddenly, with a loud bang, the front door burst open, and a group of thugs stormed in.
"Oh, look!" sneered the bald, scarred leader, Matthew Owen. "A fancy dinner, but no money to pay your debts, huh?" He eyed the table.
The Langleys were terrified. Simone shielded Camille. Dustin frowned; these men seemed more than simple thugs.
David pleaded, "Mr. Owen, please give me a few more days. I'll pay this month's interest in full."
Matthew scoffed, "Interest? What about the principal? You want a feast? I'll give you something to eat!" He kicked over the table, scattering the food.
Camille cried out, Simone hugging her protectively. Matthew threatened, "Make a sound, and I'll kill you all!"
Just as he lunged, Dustin stepped between him and Camille. Matthew taunted, "Who the hell are you, punk? Death wish?"
Dustin turned to David, "What's going on?"
David sighed, explaining, "Our company's in trouble. Our bank loan was rejected, so we borrowed from the Serpentine Gang. The interest is crippling."
Dustin was stunned. The Langleys, struggling so much, still welcomed him. He knew he had to help.
"Get out!" Dustin spat.
Matthew laughed mockingly, then his face darkened. David pleaded, "Please, don't hurt Mr. Fox! We'll pay you back!"
"Mr. Fox?" Matthew frowned. "Which family?"
Before Dustin could answer, a stunning woman in booty shorts appeared at the door. Matthew and his thugs paled. It was Elisa Wyatt.
The thugs were terrified of Elisa; she had once angered Ronald Quigley, head of the Serpentine Gang, but somehow emerged unscathed. The underworld feared crossing the Wyatts.
Elisa strode in, her gaze fixed on Dustin. "Ellie," Dustin said.
Elisa said coldly, "Don't call me that. You're not a Wyatt. You have no right."
Dustin's face hardened. "Elisa Wyatt, what are you doing here?"
Elisa, unhappy with the distance Dustin had created, snapped, "Amara suspects you stole from the Wyatts. She sent me to retrieve it."
Dustin was furious. He felt his heart grow cold. "I took nothing! I owe them nothing! In fact, they owe me!"
Elisa yelled, "The Wyatt family took you in for over ten years! Ungrateful wretch!"
Dustin laughed. They called him ungrateful? "Just come clean. Did you take something?" Elisa demanded. She pointed at Matthew, "Search him."
Matthew, sensing the shift in power, thoroughly searched Dustin, finding nothing.
"You really didn't take anything?" Elisa frowned.
"I took one thing," Dustin said firmly.
"What?"
"My dignity!"
Elisa's face darkened. "See how far that gets you!" She stormed out. She'd wanted him to beg for forgiveness; his refusal was his undoing.
Matthew and his thugs chuckled. "Mr. Fox, anything else to say?"
"Let's go outside. I have something to say," Dustin said calmly.
Simone, David, and Monique tried to dissuade him, but Dustin reassured them, "Don't worry. I have a plan."
Outside, Matthew mocked, "Beg for your life, Mr. Fox?"
Dustin asked, "Do you know why Ronald Quigley begged the Wyatt family for mercy?"
Matthew scoffed, but Dustin continued calmly, "Because he met someone."
Matthew frowned; outsiders didn't know this. He'd once accompanied Ronald to meet a powerful, influential figure. Ronald, usually formidable, had trembled. Matthew only saw the mysterious person's back. He had been utterly terrified.
Suddenly, Matthew froze. The back of the person before him resembled that mysterious figure's back.
"You you're" Matthew's eyes widened in shock. His hair stood on end.
Dustin turned, a murderous aura radiating from him.
