Orville was terrified. Who wouldn't be with the King of Hades enraged?
"Mr. Fox asked you a question!" the Hell Guard beside Dustin shouted.
Thud! Orville fell to his knees, unable to meet their gaze. "I'm sorry, Mr. Fox! Please forgive me!" he stammered.
In an instant, silence fell. Jaws dropped; others froze. Elisa and Jaxon were among them, their minds blank. Orville, a high-status individual in Hell Hall, someone who could practically bring Lannopolis to its knees, had apologized to Dustin, looking terrified. The disbelief was palpable. What power did Dustin wield to command such respect?
"What's going on? This is impossible!" Elisa exclaimed, frustrated. She couldn't comprehend Dustin's ability to escape trouble, or her inability to rid herself of him. Exasperation drove her nearly mad.
Jaxon, equally incredulous and panicked, felt the weight of the situation. They owed deference to Lan, let alone Orville, the manager. Yet, Orville knelt before Dustin, begging forgiveness. Jaxon felt breathless, overwhelmed. How could an outcast of the Wyatt family possess such power?
"Get up!" Dustin's icy gaze pierced Orville. "Deal with this."
Pardoned, Orville rose shakily, quickly learning what transpired. His fury erupted. "How dare you, Jaxon Chandler and Elisa Wyatt!" he roared, his glare burning into them. This wouldn't have happened without them.
Jaxon attempted an explanation, but Orville cut him short. "Pack up and leave! Your family is banned from all black markets in the country!" Jaxon's face darkened. The Chandler family's lucrative black market pharmacy was ruined, but worse, they'd offended a Hell Hall representative. Orville's dangerous glare promised dire consequences if he pursued the matter. Jaxon felt a surge of anxiety.
Elisa's face hardened. "You can't chase us out just because…" she began indignantly, then trailed off, having spoken something foolish.
Jaxon paled. Was she stupid? How could she defy a Hell Hall manager? he thought.
"I can, indeed," Orville said coldly, his voice laced with menace. "Unless you want to stay here forever?"
Elisa fell silent, overwhelmed.
"We'll go," Jaxon gritted out, accepting their fate. He glared at the calm Dustin, malice simmering in his eyes.
