Chapter 315: Don't Stress If You Can't Pass the Exam
Her classmates were participating in the independent enrollment of Craydon University. She asked the teacher at Hughes High School and learned that Stephanie had also applied; however, since transferring schools, Stephanie had not attended classes at Hughes.
She heard that her family arranged for her to take extra classes in Nemmington, the capital city, superior to Melcester in all aspects. Stephanie's grades were average, but she pursued an artistic path, unlike Myrna's serious, professional route. Art students typically have slightly lower scores, but combined with her strong family background, Stephanie gained early access to renowned tutors in Nemmington. Her chances of getting into Craydon University seemed much stronger than Myrna's.
No matter how good Stephanie was, she was still a student in a different class. She definitely sided with her own classmates. Hattie didn't mention that she had secretly voted in the school BBS posts using an anonymous account, betting on Myrna's success.
She handed Myrna her leave application and a booklet of past Craydon University independent admissions exam questions she had retrieved from her drawer.
“These are the ones I found online. The 2018 papers aren't available online, but all the papers from 2010 to 2019 are here. Take these few days to have a good look and see the direction they set for the questions. Maybe it will be useful for you.”
Myrna had already seen past Craydon University exam papers, but she hadn't expected Hattie to collect them online specifically for her. Startled, she took the materials, pursed her lips, glanced at Hattie, and said, “Thank you, Ms. Benson.”
Her voice lacked the sweet, innocent tone expected of girls her age. It sounded slightly hoarse, seemingly cheerful yet a little wild. To someone else, it might have seemed she didn't take it seriously, but Hattie, having taught her for half a year, likely understood her personality. She knew Myrna was the type who appeared cold but possessed a warm heart. If she was willing to say thank you, then she had genuinely accepted Hattie's goodwill. A smile unconsciously appeared on Hattie's face as she patted Myrna's shoulder and said, “Keep it up!”
Other teachers from various classes and subjects were in the office. Myrna was famous; most teachers at Melcester Central High School knew her. Seeing Hattie give Myrna her leave note and review materials, everyone wished her well, saying, “Myrna, do well on your exams in Nemmington.”
“Yes, believe in yourself!”
“You were a student in our Melcester Central High School’s top class, and you were taught by Hattie. You were definitely capable.”
“Yeah, just don’t have too much psychological pressure.”
Hattie feared Myrna and Stephanie would put pressure on each other since they were both taking the Craydon University exam. Seeing them teasing each other, Hattie cast a sharp glance and said impatiently, “Will you ever stop? We’ve already said not to put pressure on her, but all of you saying these things—isn’t that putting pressure on her?”
Cameron, who had witnessed her past dislike for Myrna, was now defending her. Unable to help himself, he laughed, raised his hand, and said to the others, “Alright, alright, let’s stop talking about it. Ms. Benson might get angry if we continue!” He had also spoken up for Myrna when Class B's class advisor, Elaine, bullied her in the past.
He, a literature teacher, walked up to Myrna without saying much and handed her a book titled “How to Write.” With his chubby face beaming, he said, “Take it, go back and memorize two essays. If the literature exam at Craydon University includes a composition question, use the good phrases and sentences from the book, add a few more, and at least come up with a composition; don’t leave it blank!”
The composition score is not low. Unfortunately, Myrna didn't know whether she couldn't write or didn't want to. Every time there was an exam, her literature essays were completely blank, as if she had no idea what to write. It made him feel heartbroken.
