Chapter 33: Full Marks

The principal’s office was quiet for ten minutes. The director of teaching and discipline didn’t use the red pen in his hand once. He looked solemn and stared at the paper. Finally, the director stood up restlessly and said, “Wait a minute. I need to look at the surveillance video.”

The other teachers were confused. “Why?”

Cameron picked up Myrna’s paper and looked at it. The director had partially obscured it, preventing Cameron from clearly seeing Myrna’s answers. The other students also curiously gathered around to look.

Myrna had answered all the multiple-choice questions correctly. Her answers to the gap-filling questions were also correct. The teachers compared the standard answers with Myrna’s, becoming increasingly shocked and disbelieving. Myrna’s answers were all right. They kept looking, but couldn’t find anything wrong. They thought, “How is this possible?”

The teachers’ expressions changed. They looked at Myrna. She maintained a calm expression on her pretty face, not even glancing over when the teachers examined her paper. Myrna seemed so confident she wasn't even interested in looking. She lowered her head, texting someone on her phone.

Blake: “Mya, I suddenly have some work to do and am busy tonight. Don’t go to other places. I’ll let Mr. Larson pick you up.”

Myrna texted Blake back. Then, her phone rang again.

Calvin: “How did the test go?”

Myrna lifted an eyebrow, looked at her phone with her deep eyes, and texted Calvin back. Soon, she received another message.

Calvin: “Do you want to study in Class A? I can talk to the school.”

Myrna squinted her bright eyes and gazed at her phone screen. She was sure she had told Calvin the test went just fine; she hadn’t said she did exceptionally well.

As far as Myrna knew, Melcester Central High School had strict rules. They had made an exception to allow her to enroll in her final year of high school. Myrna wondered who Calvin was and why he could get her into any class she wanted.

“Myrna.”

Before Myrna texted Calvin back, the director and teachers had examined her grades and called her name. Myrna put her phone back into her bag, gathered her belongings, and walked over confidently.

Suddenly, an anonymous person posted something on the Melcester Central High School BBS: “Amazing! The new transfer student got full marks and got into Class A!”

Initially, few people paid attention. But as more and more people commented, the post climbed to become one of the top three on the school BBS.

“How is that possible? The tests are extremely hard in our school. How can someone get full marks?”

“If this is true, I’m willing to eat my shit and broadcast it.”

“Really? Anything can happen. You can eat my shit if yours isn’t enough.”

“I’m also willing to help.”

There were many similar comments.

“Poor poster, they are all questioning you. But don’t worry. I’m not one of them. I’m just waiting for your lie to be exposed.”

Stephanie was on her way to the classroom. Abbey was playing with her phone beside her. The top post on the school BBS was about Stephanie’s acceptance into Hebbury College of Art. Abbey was looking at the latest comments and flattering Stephanie.

“Stephie, the post about you is a hit. You are the most popular girl in school. A lot of people pay attention to you.”

Stephanie pressed her lips and smiled proudly, “Don’t flatter me. I think they care more about Hebbury College of Art.”

Hebbury College of Art was considered among the most prestigious art schools in Nemmington, comparable to Nemmington University and Craydon University. It was understandable that Stephanie was so proud.

Abbey, well aware of Stephanie’s grades and envious of her wealthy parents, kept scrolling through the BBS posts. Suddenly, she saw the second post. She paused, astonished. “What is this?”

Abbey wondered, “The transfer student got full marks?!” “I remember that Stephanie’s ‘fake’ sister just got transferred here.”
