Listen to this chapter:

โ€œIt just depended on whether Mr. Clinton could hold out. Alright, weโ€™ll talk tomorrow. Iโ€™ll come later.โ€

Roy hung up the phone, then glanced at Chrisโ€™s pale face and knew he was tired. He led him into a private room and pushed the door open. On the table were many dishes, seemingly just served. Nina and Jessica sat together, both with their heads down, quietly talking. Hearing the noise at the door, they looked up. Jessica waved her hand. โ€œPerfect timing. The food here isnโ€™t great, just have a bite.โ€ There were four of them in total.

Looking at the table full of plates, Chris suddenly didnโ€™t understand what โ€œjust have a biteโ€ meant.

โ€œHow is Joseph? Is he okay?โ€ asked Jessica.

Nina had already received a call from Edward saying his condition was stable for now but still needed to be monitored for recovery. โ€œCurrently, his condition isnโ€™t critical, butโ€ฆ his injuries are severe. He probably wonโ€™t be able to do any heavy lifting in the future. Of course, as an entertainer, he wouldnโ€™t need to do physical labor anyway. A conservative estimate is that it will take six months to a year to recover.โ€

Nina cursed inwardly. It was rare for Nina to swear in front of Chris. Nina always acted sweet and well-behaved in front of Chris, never showing the aura of a CEO of an entertainment company.

โ€œRight now, Indya and Shannon are still having a meeting at the company. The public opinion online canโ€™t be controlled for the time being. Thereโ€™s an overwhelming flood of criticism saying our company didnโ€™t protect the artist well. Josephโ€™s fan base is huge, itโ€™s difficult to handle,โ€ Nina said angrily, taking a sip of tea.

According to Royโ€™s investigation, the fallen crystal chandelier was due to aging parts, and no other cause was found. But the venue manager said that all decorations and chandeliers were regularly inspected, so there couldnโ€™t be any aging parts. According to maintenance records, the chandelier parts had been replaced two months ago. Based on wear estimates, they definitely couldnโ€™t have aged to the condition seen on site. So someone must have tampered with it.

โ€œThe surveillance cameras were deliberately moved. I suspect an inside man was bribed. Weโ€™re currently interrogating the security staff,โ€ Roy said as he ate quickly.

Chris was no better off; he had been in the operating room for over 10 hours. Even when it was not their departmentโ€™s turn, he had to stay and watch. He didnโ€™t even dare drink much water. Jessica had no appetite and worried Chris would starve, so she kept feeding him.

โ€œToday I worked with Ashley, he said he was working for you,โ€ Chris whispered to Jessica. โ€œLooks like Ms. Wilder likes people who study medicine. You knew Ashley before you knew me.โ€

Jessica lowered her eyes and smiled. Actually, that wasnโ€™t true. She met Ashley after Chris. Back then, she and Chris werenโ€™t married yet. She only knew a little about medical students because of Chrisโ€™s identity. From then on, after Michael went abroad, she became disheartened and took over the company. She immediately began looking into her fatherโ€™s death, naturally tracing it back to the Summit Infirmary. She selected a top student from medical school and arranged for him to intern at the Summit Infirmary, where he stayed for five years.

โ€œI like you more,โ€ said Jessica, smiling and kissing him.

The young couple flirted playfully, but Roy didnโ€™t want to watch and quickly pulled his sister to eat.

โ€œWhatโ€™s next?โ€ asked Nina.

โ€œThe hospital has Chris guarding inside, but we wonโ€™t be able to find anything outside.โ€

โ€œIf we donโ€™t find anything, then itโ€™s a PR crisis. It can always be solved. Anyway, Iโ€™m not counting on convicting the Hall family because of this.โ€ Jessica wiped her mouth and looked up at Roy. โ€œWhat do you think, Captain Felton?โ€
