Chapter 116

Everyone in the car had their phones on silent, so from the outside, no one could guess there was anyone inside.

"Not coming back yet?" Jessica’s voice was a bit hoarse, as if she had been in meetings all afternoon and talked too much. "Look at what time it is. I asked the hospital, and they said that you already got off work."

Chris covered the microphone and said, "I’m with Roy, in the hospital car park. I’ll come back later."

Jessica paused. "Roy? Hasn’t he taken the statement?"

Chris said, "Joseph’s still unconscious. Roy thinks someone might come to 'clean up,' so he told me to install some equipment in the ward. We’re about to catch them."

Catching people was so dangerous. Jessica was a bit unhappy that Roy insisted on dragging Chris into it, and her voice turned cold. "Why are you tagging along? If they’re catching someone, don’t go watching the show."

Chris said, "I know, I won’t cause trouble. I’ll be back in half an hour. Don’t worry."

"Alright."

If a suspect really showed up later, he would only be a burden there, so before the operation started, he said goodbye and left, also reminding Roy to keep things quiet while catching the suspect.

Chris drove around, went to a restaurant, and ordered Jessica’s favorite dishes, then went home.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Jessica sitting on the sofa choosing a film.

She wore simple loungewear, her hair tied up, sitting cross-legged on the sofa, looking relaxed and comfortable.

At that moment, she showed no trace of a businesswoman but rather like a wife married for many years.

If Jessica had been like this from the start, their five years might not have been wasted.

In Chris’s heart, there was some regret. The time lost could never be regained, and the shadow cast by those five years would never fully fade.

But fortunately, everything was moving in a better direction.

"Why are you only back now? Didn’t you say half an hour?" Jessica turned around and saw Chris carrying several food containers. "You went to the Cosmos?"

As she spoke, Jessica got up and walked over.

Chris was about to go to the kitchen to get plates when Jessica hugged him from behind.

"Mr. Green even helped catch someone today, that’s impressive!"

Chris hadn’t even changed his clothes yet, both his hands were full, so when Jessica hugged him, he could only raise his hand.

"Don’t tease me, I haven’t gotten changed yet."

After a while, Jessica let go.

Chris put the food on the table, then turned to take off his clothes.

Meanwhile, Jessica had already taken out the food.

"Roy just asked me for a favor. I also suspect Michael might make a move. What do you think?" Chris looked at Jessica.

After all, in Jessica’s heart, Michael was different.

No matter how detestable he had become, at least the Michael from before had truly loved.

Jessica’s expression didn’t change at all.

She served Chris some food and said slowly, "Maybe. From what I know of Michael, he wouldn’t leave himself with a fatal ending. No matter what went wrong, he could always find a way to fix it."

Unexpectedly, Jessica still spoke highly of Michael, making Chris raise his eyebrows.

Jessica looked up and met his eyes, "You have to admit, if Michael had stayed in the business world, his status today might be comparable to mine. But I can’t agree with his methods to achieve his goals. Maybe that’s why we can’t work together."

Perhaps from the start, they were not on the same path. They might have just stumbled into each other.
