Chapter 133

Eric had wanted to say something on the plane – this wasn’t a poster shoot, so why bring so many people?

On the flight, Michael tried to bring up the past with Jessica. He said he had truly been unconscious when his parents took him away; otherwise, they would already be married and living happily in Jelaston.

“I believe that with our abilities, we could’ve lived well even without the support of our families,” said Michael, envisioning the future.

Jessica remained calm throughout, occasionally glancing at messages on her phone. Before boarding, she had received a message from Chris, assuring her she had nothing to worry about.

This trip was bound to attract media attention. Even without Jason, the mere presence of Jessica and Michael together was enough to spark headlines.

Jessica worried that Chris might feel uncomfortable seeing such news. Snapping back to the moment, Jessica looked out at the night sky through the window. It was a moon-viewing flight, and the nighttime scenery held a unique charm when seen from a plane. If the man beside her were the one she loved, perhaps she would have felt more immersed in the moment.

Jessica spoke slowly, “There’s no point saying all this now. You were taken away, and I was rescued from the car. Just seconds after I left the vehicle, it exploded. You always ask whether I still like Chris – even if we’re divorced and there are no feelings, my gratitude toward him remains the same.”

At a moment like this, the last thing Michael wanted to hear was Chris’s name. He was the man who had intruded into their lives – someone who was never meant to appear. If not for Chris, Michael would have reunited with Jessica upon returning from abroad long ago. But outwardly, Michael remained composed and smiled.

“Indeed, I’m grateful to Mr. Green as well. If not for him, I might never have seen you again. Jessica, I just want to say – you and Mr. Green are divorced now, and I’ve returned. We should continue down the path we were meant to follow. We can’t keep wasting time.”

Shannon and Eric were seated right behind Jessica, and upon hearing this blatant confession, they exchanged a glance. But since they were on a night flight, they couldn’t disturb the other passengers.

“Mr. Green and Ms. Wilder are divorced?” Eric asked softly. He had seen Chris at the company before. Every time Chris came, he went straight to Jessica’s office, and the two would stay inside all afternoon before leaving together in the evening. Every visit, Chris even brought snacks for the employees on the same floor. By all appearances, they seemed like a loving couple – not estranged at all.

Shannon lowered her voice. “Don’t worry about what Mr. Hall says. Just remember your task.”

Eric nodded. “Got it. Three more hours until we land. I’m going to sleep for a bit.” Staying up late to work on design drafts was normal for them. They were long used to this kind of shifting schedule.

Chris hadn’t felt the house this empty in a long time. Ever since he and Jessica reconciled, she always came home. And he always left a light on, waiting for the lady of the house. This time, the trip was going to be longer, and surprisingly, Chris... He read for a long time before finally receiving a message from Jessica. She had checked into the hotel and told him not to worry. He did worry about Jessica – after all, Michael was an extreme kind. Who knew what he might try to do?

But Chris didn’t reply to her message. He wanted her to think that he had already fallen asleep.
