Chapter 145

Calum had been keeping an eye on Helen for a while. Now that he confirmed Helen was safe, he turned his attention to Mandy. Although he still didn’t know why, since Jessica had requested it, he had to go.

“I’m just curious, you and your brother have different surnames–one follows the father’s name, the other the mother’s. Why?” Maggie asked while walking to the meeting room with Indya.

Indya had slept very late last night and felt tired this morning. Hearing the question, she turned her head and glanced at Maggie. “Do you have trouble telling your son from your daughter?”

“I don’t have kids yet.”

“Our genders and appearances are very different. Anyone who’s met us wouldn’t confuse us. As for the different surnames… it seems like my dad got that from a fortune teller back then…”

The news about the Summit Infirmary going to be listed had already spread like wildfire. As the Honorary Chairman, Chris received many banquet invitations. But Chris had always been indifferent to such things. Besides attending necessary events with Jessica, he basically didn’t go to other banquets. So most of the invitations were politely declined. Chris was busy with surgeries and hospital matters, unable to handle everything alone. Jessica decided to find him an assistant.

“Francesca Lowe, your assistant.”

That evening, Jessica came to pick up Chris and brought Francesca along. Francesca had originally been the top secretary in the industry, on par with Shannon. But her company had some issues–her employer was a terrible person–so Francesca was sacrificed and ended up behind bars for six months. Jessica was very talent-appreciative and always recruited capable people to her side. But the secretarial department was already full. After giving it some thought, putting Francesca beside Chris seemed the most suitable thing to do.

The Summit Infirmary was basically a small company. Except that Francesca couldn’t perform surgeries, the rest was no different from handling company affairs. Her salary naturally came from the Wilder Group. Jessica offered a very high salary. Francesca had only been out of prison for a couple of months before Jessica recruited her. She had expected the annual salary to be low, but to her surprise, it was much higher than before. With the money secured, people naturally would be loyal. This had always been Jessica’s belief.

“Hello, Mr. Green. I’m Francesca. Here’s my resume. From today on, I’ll be your assistant. My position is personal assistant. I’ll help you handle hospital affairs, personal matters, and various other tasks.”

Chris was startled as he opened the car door in the car park. They had only talked about getting an assistant that afternoon, but now the person had been sent straight to him that evening. Chris paused and said to Francesca, “Hello, hello. Well, um… I’ll take you upstairs.”

But Jessica grabbed Chris’s hand while she was still in the car. “I already told you where the office is. Go up by yourself. We’ll discuss the handover tomorrow. After work, unless it’s something very urgent, you can do whatever you want and don’t bother him,” said Jessica.

Chris was about to speak when Francesca said, “Yes, ma’am.”

“Get in,” Jessica tilted her head.

Chris had no choice but to bend down and get into the car. Recently, Jessica had been busy and hadn’t had time to pick Chris up after work. If it weren’t for Francesca, she might still be at the company. It was rare to finish early. Night had already fallen. Chris didn’t have time to cook, so the two of them just picked a restaurant nearby.
