Chapter 150
“It’s alright, you don’t need to be afraid. Jessica messaged me, saying someone was bothering her and asked me to come keep you company,” Collin said as he and Chris leaned on the railing, looking at the brightest star in the night sky. “It seems your relationship is really good, and that makes me much more at ease.”
Chris came back to his senses. “At the wedding…”
“I know. Back then, you two were just working together. Now that there's genuine feeling between the two of you, that’s a good thing. Jessica is strong-willed, and it’s hard for her to fall in love. You’re the first,” Collin said, turning his head to look at Chris.
Chris chuckled and didn’t mind Collin’s well-meaning lie. “The first person she loved wasn’t actually me.”
But Collin shook his head firmly. “No, I never thought Jessica’s feelings for Michael were love. Michael’s presence was always self-serving; he approached Jessica with a purpose. Jessica was rebellious at the time, and since Mrs. Wilder forbade them from being together, she insisted on it just out of spite.”
Because Chris was the first person Jessica ever loved, that was why she didn’t know how to face him. In the end, she chose the same way as her mother – distance and coldness – to protect the safety of the one she loved.
“Is that so? It’s really the first time I’ve heard such an explanation,” said Chris.
Collin looked back at the world of fame and fortune, his gaze drifting, and took a sip of champagne.
“In our circle, it’s really hard to fall in love because everyone approaches with an agenda. Only you are different. After the New Year, Hurricane Media will move back to Impelia. I hope we’ll see each other often.”
Jessica was kept from leaving by Michael but couldn’t show any impatience. She was forced to drag out the conversation with him for a long time.
“I heard Luke also came. I heard Luke started a pharmaceutical subsidiary company? Is that true?” Jessica asked cautiously.
Michael snorted and was about to speak, but his tone suddenly grew more aggrieved.
“Yes, my parents have always had a grudge against me. After Luke started that company, my parents nag even more. What should I do?”
‘What should you do? Whatever the fuck you want!’ Jessica cursed inwardly.
In her early 20s, she didn’t see how selfish Michael was. But now, she could see clearly how selfish he was.
There was no way that she would help.
The atmosphere cooled for a while until Jessica saw Luke heading upstairs.
Michael grew anxious and stood up. “Jessica, I just remembered I haven’t delivered the gift to Mr. Chase. I’ll head upstairs and give it to him; wait here for me.”
“Okay,”
‘Yeah, right. In your dreams!’ Jessica continued inwardly.
As soon as Michael left, Jessica got up and ran to the third floor, thinking only Collin was keeping Chris company.
But when she pushed open the large glass door, she saw Nina as well.
“Hey, there you are. Michael’s been bothering me for so long. Why didn’t you come to get him off my ass?” Jessica walked over to Nina and bumped her shoulder.
Nina laughed. “I just wanted to see you helpless.”
She flipped her long hair. “Like I said before, just declare war on Michael. Why bother putting on an act? No one can stand him. Even Chris told me to go help you out. But I didn’t!”

Jessica pinched her ear. “Hey!”
Collin cleared his throat. “I just saw Luke and Michael enter the lounge one after the other. Mr. Chase seems to be inside. Those two wouldn’t start a fight in there, would they?”
Jessica shook her head. “Michael wouldn’t be that reckless, but with him there, Luke definitely won’t secure the deal.”
Michael’s job was to stir up trouble.
