Chapter 154
Because of what happened to Mandy, everyone left early. Next door, people were still drinking and making toasts, but Indya stepped out briefly to confirm some details with Chris.
When they got home, Jessica was removing her makeup in front of the mirror. Chris stood behind her, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, staring at the floor in a daze with a meaningful expression. Jessica looked at Chris through the mirror.
“Thinking about Mandy?”
“Yeah.”
He had originally thought the person manipulating Megan was in Room 316, but after the investigation, that possibility was ruled out. Now that Mandy had been kidnapped…
“I suspect it’s Luke,” said Jessica.
Chris looked up at Jessica. In the mirror, Jessica’s face looked slightly pale after removing her makeup. In fact, she looked beautiful with or without makeup–Chris liked her either way. With makeup, she was a powerful and sharp businesswoman, strikingly beautiful. Without makeup, she had a gentle, unique charm.
“I feel the same,” Chris walked over and hugged Jessica. “There were so many people who entered the lounge that day to negotiate with Mr. Chase, but I only suspect Luke and Michael.”
Michael wasn’t involved in the pharmaceutical business.
“We can’t completely rule out Michael either,” Jessica added, recalling what Roy had said. “Mandy is a foreign journalist. Lonat and Yelia have one thing in common–Aitairy.”
Those two places were the headquarters and largest branch of Aitairy. Jessica suddenly turned around and looked up at Chris.
“The kidnapper didn’t ask for money, only for a hard drive. Could it be… Mandy discovered something abroad, and the evidence is on that hard drive?”
“It’s possible. Why do you suspect Luke?”
Thinking back on the past two days’ conversations with Michael, Jessica remembered the gloating tone in his voice. He didn’t take Luke’s anger seriously at all. That was when she started to suspect Michael. Michael disrupting Luke’s negotiations that day might have been a move to push Luke into a corner.
“The Hall family is a complicated family. It’s hard to know everything about them. And Jaden is just an outsider right now. That’s why I insist on pushing Jaden into power. Once he controls the Hall family, we’ll have all the answers we want.”
The signing went smoothly. Only two media outlets were allowed to film inside. The handshake between Chris and Mr. Chase was captured and quickly became a trending topic online. Francesca handled everything efficiently.
When Chris returned to the hospital, he saw Megan already waiting in his office. He sent a message to Roy, telling him to come upstairs. While he had been signing the agreement, Roy had already brought a team waiting in the underground car park of the hospital. But he only asked Roy to come up alone.
Megan looked at Chris a bit nervously. This new honorary chairman was not only handsome but also had a calm demeanor. Yet, there was an innate pressure about him–when he looked at you without smiling, you would feel like he was scrutinizing your soul. No matter what you had done, no matter how well you hid it, it felt like he could see right through you.
Chris was still wearing his doctor’s overalls and glanced at the time. He still had a surgery scheduled for the afternoon and needed to manage his time well. Once they sat down, Megan asked anxiously, “Mr. Green, you wanted to see me?”

Chris gave her a small smile and pointed at the chair across from him. “You can just call me Dr. Green, Megan. I may be the chairman, but I’m also a doctor.”
Megan sat down, keeping her eyes fixed on Chris the entire time, not daring to look away. Less than five minutes later, Roy knocked and walked in. He acted like he was at home–pulled out a chair and sat next to Chris with a bold posture, legs crossed wide. He looked somewhat intimidating. There was a watch on his wrist, which seemed quite expensive and even appeared to have diamonds on it.
