With that thought in mind, Chris smiled, reaching out to pull Jessica tighter into his arms.
โNo, my wife and Mr. Hallโs past relationship is already a thing of the past. We have a good relationship now. I kindly ask everyone not to spread rumors,โ he said.
โDoes Mr. Green know that Ms. Wilder accompanied Mr. Hall and his child to the hospital?โ a reporter asked.
Chris replied, โOf course I know. Didnโt you know I work at that hospital? Jessica also invested in that hospital, so naturally, she would take Mr. Hallโs child there.โ
Jessica furrowed her brow slightly.
She had planned to have Shannon help Chris resign, but now that Chris had mentioned working at the hospital on camera, he couldnโt resign anytime soon. Otherwise, it would look staged.
So, this was Chrisโs counterattack?
She had thought that Chris was easy to control. Over the years, he had always been obedient, docile, and followed all her suggestions. But recently, Chris seemed like a porcupine, full of spikes, making it impossible to get close.
It was only then that Jessica realized how smart Chris was. It was their marriage that had made Chris hide his sharp edges. He had willingly stayed at home, playing the role of a househusband.
Some reporters, however, werenโt giving up. They wanted to dig into Jessicaโs past with Michael.
โI think anyone with a bit of common sense wouldnโt bring up my exโboyfriend in front of my current husband. My relationship with Michael is in the past, and my marriage with Chris is very stable. No matter who comes back, it wonโt affect our relationship,โ said Jessica.
She held Chrisโs hand, and their wedding rings sparkled on their fingers.
The reporters still wanted to probe deeper, but just then, a group of people emerged from the company, pushing the media aside. Shannon and Sophie appeared, and as Jessica was about to walk forward, a child suddenly ran out and hugged her leg.
โMommy.โ
This shout felt like a thunderclap, and everyone was stunned.
Even Jessica froze for a moment. Not wanting to make too much of a scene and upset Jordan, she gently pressed her shoulder to push her away, squatting down and saying, โJordan, thatโs not how you should address me. Iโm not your mommy. I donโt have any children yet.โ
Jordan blinked, as if looking back at Michael for a moment, then turned to Jessica and said, โBut I want you to be my mommy.โ
On the steps, Sophie looked on, seemingly watching a show, disdainfully staring at Chris.
At an occasion like this, Jessica would never embarrass Michael. She cared about Michael the most. As long as she could get Jessica to admit in front of the media that she still loved Michael, Chris would definitely be out of the game.
Shannon was anxious and had tried several times to step forward to pull Jordan away, but she couldnโt be sure of Jessicaโs intentions.
Michael had been brought to the company by Sophie. When the media were downstairs, the office area was in chaos, and Shannon didnโt have the time to handle everything. Who knew the child would run up and call the CEO โmommyโ?
โJordan, just because you want me to be your mommy doesnโt mean I can be. Iโm not your daddyโs wife, so I canโt be your mommy,โ said Jessica, speaking logically to a child. It felt almost absurd.
Chris let go of Jessicaโs hand but didnโt seem to be in a hurry to help. His gaze shifted over the crowd and landed on Michael.
Michaelโs lips curved slightly, clearly trying not to cover his nervousness. He hadnโt expected Jessica to bring Chris along, so that was why he told Jordan to call Jessica mommy.
