Chris hadn’t expected to be dragged into such a situation. Just a moment ago, they had been a deeply affectionate couple, but the next second, with Jordan’s sudden appearance, it only made him feel more embarrassed.
The show had gone on long enough, and Jessica was starting to feel anxious. She gave Shannon a look, and the latter quickly came over to pull Jordan away.
“You’ve all seen it. This child is not mine but Michael’s. My marriage with my husband is still intact, and we haven’t done anything illegal. Michael came here to prove our innocence. Meeting in the hospital was just a friendly gesture of mutual help. My husband was also there. Do you have any more questions?”
In truth, Jessica had no idea Michael was going to show up.
At that moment, Jessica had been slightly stunned, and instinctively grabbed Chris’s hand, afraid that if she let go, he would disappear.
The clarification in front of so many eyes forced Michael to speak up.
“Yes,” said Michael, struggling. “I didn’t expect such public speculation. Jessica and I have long since gone our separate ways. We both have families now, and we would never betray our families.”
The dispute at the company’s entrance quickly died down. Shannon led the way, and Jordan returned to Michael’s arms. The group entered the elevator.
“Who brought Michael here?” asked Jessica.
Shannon didn’t dare hide anything. “It was Miss Sophie.”
Sophie still didn’t realize she had done something wrong and continued to mock Chris. “Why are you still here? Can’t you leave cleanly? You’re still here causing trouble. If it weren’t for you, my sister and Michael could have confirmed their relationship. Then the Hall family wouldn’t look down on Michael. This is all your fault!”
They walked into the office in silence, and Shannon temporarily took Jordan away. Only a few adults were left in the CEO’s office.
It was definitely not the right environment for a child.
Sophie didn’t stop and continued her taunting, asking Chris why he didn’t leave more decisively, wondering if he was playing hard to get just to make her sister chase after him.
Chris couldn’t be bothered to respond to Sophie’s foolishness.
He found a place to sit, and just as Sophie came over, Jessica was by his side. Before Sophie could say anything else, Jessica grabbed her arm and slapped her.
The slap stunned both Sophie and Michael, but Chris found it normal.
It was true that Jessica cared deeply for Sophie, and maybe she still loved Michael in her heart, but nothing could outweigh the importance of the company and its interests.
Whether it was family or a lover, once they affected her business, they would be taught a lesson.
“Jessica, why did you hit me?” Sophie was dazed, one hand covering her face, tears falling from her eyes. “Jessica, it’s all Chris’s fault! Why did you bring him here? Don’t you love Michael? I was just trying to give you two a chance. What did I do wrong?”
Jessica sat in a large chair, silently watching the wronged Sophie.
“What did you do wrong?”
“Jessica, Sophie didn’t know. She didn’t expect so many reporters to be present. It was all my fault. I failed to teach Jordan manners. It’s my fault, don’t blame Sophie.”
Chris glanced down at his phone. Several teachers had messaged him, asking if he had managed to catch his flight.
He helplessly replied that he couldn’t go to Desland for now. As for the exact reason… well, the news tomorrow would explain everything for him.
‘Michael, don’t say anything,” Jessica still had a cold expression on her face. “My mom and I have been working hard to maintain the company. And you, not only are you unskilled, but you also bring me such trouble. Sophie, your life has been too easy so far, hasn’t it? Do you know how much the company’s market value will evaporate after this mess tomorrow?”
