Chapter 255 +15 BONUS
She was supposed to go straight home, but Mandy wanted to seize the opportunity and publish an article first, so she actually made her older brother drop her off at the office.
The CEO and vice CEO stayed with her, working overtime at the company.
It was still raining heavily outside.
Chris returned home, took a hot shower, and sent a message to ask Jessica if she was still awake.
Over 10 minutes later, she called him back.
The signal truly wasn’t great – her voice kept cutting in and out – but just hearing Jessica’s voice put Chris at ease.
“Shannon already told me. Whether Luke is dead or alive isn’t the point. But if Michael dares to do this in Cheria, everyone in the business world will start worrying about whether they should become enemies with him. That could reshuffle the entire power structure among the industry giants. I’m inclined to work with Roy and solve the case.”
Jessica had just finished her shower and was lying in bed with a facial mask on.
Rain had made the mountain paths wet, and the surroundings were all damp.
Jessica wasn’t used to the environment and had an allergic reaction – some red rashes had appeared on her face.
Luckily, Shannon had brought allergy medication and had just applied it for her before returning to her own room.
Chris let out a sigh. “That’s what I think too. But there are too many threads to follow – I don’t even know where to start. Roy is locked onto the Hall family, but Thomas and Lynsey still haven’t shown up.”
Now that both Michael and Luke were missing, all of the Hall Group’s affairs were being handled solely by Thomas.
With such a major incident happening, the Hall Group’s stock had also become volatile, and Thomas was clearly getting anxious.
“Don’t worry. Based on what I know of Michael, if Luke really is in his hands, he won’t kill him so quickly. He’ll definitely keep him around and torture him slowly. You still have time. As long as Luke is still alive, I can stabilize the situation when I return.”
The timing of Luke’s disappearance had been just right.
Hurricane Media had only recently set up their office in Impelia, and one of the industry giants – the current head of the Wilder family – happened to be away on a business trip.
Many people, upon hearing the news, suspected Michael and wanted to get Jessica’s opinion, but couldn’t reach her due to the lack of signal in the mountains.
Some even feared that Jessica might have gone missing too.
Thankfully, Maggie, Eric, and others were holding things steady at the Wilder Group and had confirmed that Jessica was safe and sound.
“Roads at Montvue Tower are slippery – please be careful. Or maybe I should come find you instead? I don’t have any surgeries these next few days. I can go stay with you.”
Jessica had actually wanted Chris to head over too.
The scenery in the mountains was beautiful, and even the rain couldn’t hide its charm.
Jessica had hoped Chris could see it with his own eyes.
She had even already decided – once Montvue Tower was completed, she wanted to set aside a house for the two of them.
The noise of the city was exhausting, they could retreat into the mountains together.
But things had been far too busy lately.
Even if Chris came, she wouldn’t have time to accompany him.
And with the slippery roads, it really was dangerous.
Jessica reached up and touched her cheek with her fingers, remembering her allergic reaction, and quickly said, “No need. It’s fine. I’ll be back in another three or four days. Just wait for me at home.”
After a few seconds of silence, Chris said, “Alright. I’ll wait for you at home.”
Indya couldn’t sleep well in the mountains.
The poor signal had turned her phone into little more than decoration.
For someone like Indya, who couldn’t live without a phone, it was pure torture.
The TV was on in the room, and the noisy sounds of a variety show filled the air – but even that couldn’t calm her down.
She glanced down at her phone.
The signal kept cutting in and out.
The message she had just received was from 20 minutes ago.
Most of Blake’s work was coordinated directly with Indya.
She had to admit – Blake was a very interesting man.
