Chapter 262
On such rainy mornings, Chris had already sensed something would go wrong, but he hadn’t expected it to happen just as they were about to head out for the rescue operation.
Chris thought for a moment.
“The doctors on night shift should go to the emergency department first. How many people haven’t arrived yet?” he asked.
Francesca had been standing at the door all along, able to keep an eye on both sides—watching the pharmacy dispatch and the entrance for anyone approaching.
“There are still two doctors missing from the Fourth Infirmary, but there’s still time. The on-duty doctors can go straight to the emergency department,” she said.
Chris said, “Contact all the attending doctors to return immediately.”
“Understood.”
Ashley stayed behind to watch over the pharmacy. This time, he would go to Montvue Tower with Jake as well.
The council members rushed over after hearing the news, soaked through with rain. Just hearing the ambulance sirens was enough to make anyone’s heart race.
“Be sure to be careful on the way,” someone said.
Everyone was ready to leave when someone grabbed Jake’s hand but looked toward Chris. “You all must be very careful and listen to Captain Brooks when you get there.”
“We know,” said Jake, carrying several heavy bags filled with disposable supplies and medicines. “Don’t worry, we’ll definitely listen to him.”
Several buses were parked at the entrance. Under these circumstances, there was no use for Francesca to go as well. Chris left her at the hospital to handle various affairs and to communicate with Maggie from the Wilder Group.
They couldn’t leave anyone behind. Ashley and Jake accompanied Chris. The car started slowly. Lucas stood in the vehicle, holding the back of the front seat.
“The situation on site doesn’t look good. The rain is still heavy, visibility is limited. In three hours, we’ll have to approach on foot. Before we get off, each person will receive a walkie-talkie. Use it to communicate if anything happens.”
“You guys are better than me at knowing how to treat the wounded, but you must follow my commands about the situation on site. I won’t allow you to approach places that are too dangerous. You must make quick decisions. If the medical staff get trapped too, we’ll have to send people to help you, which is not what we want.”
Lucas’s words were basically a direct warning to Chris. Lucas had a good relationship with Roy and naturally knew about Chris’s relationship with Jessica. Montvue Tower was already the Wilder Group’s property. Two days ago, the news had shown the Wilder Group’s CEO leading an on-site inspection, meaning Jessica was definitely trapped inside. Now, they were worried that Chris might risk himself because of her.
With that said, Lucas sat down and checked his phone. Chris sent messages to Collin and others, saying he was already in the car and would be careful, telling everyone not to worry and promising to bring Jessica back safely.
An unknown number called. Chris’s heart skipped a beat. He instinctively thought it was Jessica calling from someone else’s phone and hurriedly answered.
“Mr. Green.”
It was a man’s voice. Chris paused for a few seconds but quickly realized it was Blake.
Chapter 282
“Blake? Aren’t you with the film crew? Why are you calling me?”
Blake was quiet, with only occasional rain sounds. Chris guessed Blake was in a car. He had a bad feeling and grabbed his phone tightly.
“Where are you?”
“I’m on my way to Montvue Tower. I’ll be there in about an hour. There won’t be signal once I’m there.”
“What do you think you’re doing? Why are you headed there? You’re not medical staff, what help can you provide?”
“I brought some supplies. I’ll head to Montvue Tower from a different route. You medical rescue team don’t have time to check on Ms. Wilder, right?”
