Chapter 266

Chris called out to a few people to follow him to check the place Mandy had pointed out. Lucas led the rest further inside; after all, there was only one path, so there was no way Chris could get lost.

“Is there anyone down there?” Chris didn’t mind getting dirty and knelt directly on the mud.

Chris was wearing a raincoat, so the doctor’s overalls underneath couldn’t be seen. The rescue team didn’t know Chris’s identity. He lowered his head to look inside and casually pulled his ID badge out from under his clothes.

“Medical team from the Summit Infirmary. I am Chris.”

When the rescue team heard it was a medical team, they quickly stepped aside. Then they thought carefully, ‘What did this person say his name was? Chris? Isn’t that the name of the chairman of the Summit Infirmary?’ Why was the honorary chairman of the hospital out here joining a rescue operation?

“The shoes are outside. Someone must have fallen through the empty space below. We also lowered a rope down, but there has been no sound and no one pulling on it. I’m worried the person might have fainted.”

Chris lay near the hole and called out, “Can you hear me? I’m from the medical team. Can you respond?”

The rope only moved slightly, and it was unclear whether it was being pulled by a person or just blown by the wind.

This wasn’t going to work.

“We will find the smallest person from the rescue team to go down. With this kind of terrain, if a person can’t speak, they can’t signal their location by knocking. The only way is to go down. The medical team will wait nearby.”

Chris nodded and placed the box aside. Jake followed him the entire time. It was Jake’s first time seeing this kind of situation, and he was a bit nervous; his palms were sweaty.

But when he saw the person being brought out covered in blood, Jake no longer felt fear or nervousness. The doctor’s duty was to save lives. All his movements were instinctive and fast. He almost jumped up and rushed over with Chris.

“The external injuries are not serious. The heavy bleeding is from a damaged blood vessel. Jake, take people aside to stop the bleeding and give a transfusion. When he wakes up, ask if there are others nearby. I will continue inward.”

Without looking up, Jake said, “Understood.”

The reporters also prepared their equipment. Mandy carried a heavy box and followed Chris inside.

“I just saw Blake,” Mandy whispered to Chris, fearing someone nearby might overhear. “He brought the rescue team, carrying big bags. Is he here to look for Jessica?”

“Something like that,” said Chris. “They’re from the same company anyway. Blake’s film crew has a standby rescue team, and he brought them straight over to help.”

Mandy frowned. “Are Blake and Jessica really that close? I thought they just had a working relationship. Blake always looks cold and never smiles.”

“That’s just his personality.” Chris looked around. The cameraman had wrapped his precious camera in waterproof cloth and was holding it as he moved forward. Seeing no one nearby, he said, “Blake likes Indya.”

Mandy immediately understood and said, “That explains it.”

After walking about 500 meters, they met up with Lucas and the others. A building had collapsed, and there were definitely people underneath.

Two people had already escaped when it collapsed, but the others hadn’t made it out yet. Three had been dug out.

“How could there be so many people?” asked Lucas.

“This is a small hotel. It’s on a truck route, so quite a lot of truck drivers stop here to rest and eat. There are probably a dozen more people underneath.”

Hearing this, Lucas quickly arranged for everyone to continue digging.
