Chapter 269
“What are you talking about?”
Sure enough, those words made Anthony feel uncomfortable deep down.
Linda sat right next to him, not caring at all whether he wanted her to leave. She looked toward the fire escape.
The door wasn’t fully closed—they could see the flicker of firelight inside, and the two people must have been sitting very close, speaking almost cheek-to-cheek.
Linda said, “Don’t think I don’t know what’s going through your head. Ever since we got back, you’ve been cold to me. Isn’t it because you saw your ex-girlfriend again? Your ex has status, money, and power in the Wilder Group. That’s why you’re so eager to go crawling back to her, right? Anthony, your thoughts are written all over your face.”
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
Linda smiled faintly and didn’t bother hiding anything. She rested her head right on Anthony’s shoulder.
Just then, Indya and Blake came out of the fire escape together, heading upstairs so she could help Blake get settled.
Their movement was also caught in Blake’s line of sight. So that was Indya’s ex-boyfriend? He looked far too weak.
Sam gave Blake a knowing glance, silently confirming Anthony’s identity.
Linda continued, “See? As long as Blake is around, Indya won’t even look at you. Anthony, stop wasting your time—she’s never going to fall for someone like you again.”
Anthony still pushed Linda away.
“Earlier, I ran into some people from Hurricane Media—Mandy was among them,” Sam said to Jessica. “But they probably won’t make it over here anytime soon. Oh, and your husband is listed on the medical team—he’s actually the team leader.”
Jessica took a sip of water, nodded, and said, “It’s not a surprise.”
“Before we came, Blake gave your husband a call, told him not to worry we were coming straight to Montvue Tower. He could focus on helping the people out there. By the way, this phone can connect to satellite communication, but the medical team are mostly using walkie-talkies. Their phones are probably not on them.”
Jessica took a brief look and shook her head. “Forget it. He’s busy. Those people’s lives are far more important than ours.”
“Alright. I’ll head upstairs and check in on Blake, and also talk to Indya about the next project—we’d already agreed on it before.”
“Have Indya help you sort out a room. There are still many empty ones on the same floor. The conditions here definitely aren’t five-star hotel quality, but it’ll do for now.”
“No problem. Blake and I have stayed in all kinds of places—this is nothing. I’ll be heading up then.”
With that, Sam went upstairs.
Indya was already helping Blake get his room ready. The two of them were chatting and laughing. It seemed that they were having fun.
Sam looked at Blake’s back and recalled what he had said before.
He had liked Indya for a long time, but back then, Blake had no status, no way to even approach her.
Now he finally had a legitimate reason.
Blake had waited a long, long time to take this step.
Fortunately, Indya was still single.
“I told you, don’t say such things. I really…” Indya was tidying the desk as she spoke. At that point, she suddenly sighed. She put down what she was holding and turned to look at Blake.
“I know how you feel. Over the years, countless people have liked me, but…”
Blake stepped forward, standing in front of her.
He said, “Don’t be in such a hurry to reject me. You can enjoy being pursued by me. I’ve never pursued anyone before.”
“I hope you focus on your work.”
