Chapter 270

Indya had finished tidying up everything on the bed.

No one had stayed in this room before—it was mostly used to store miscellaneous items. Fortunately, lately, they had all been keeping their things in their own rooms, so several rooms on this side were now empty.

Actually, Indya had remembered a while ago that she and Blake had met before—the very thing Blake had mentioned.

But she hadn’t taken it to heart at all. To Indya, even if that person hadn’t been Blake back then, she still would have helped. It wasn’t something worth remembering for so long.

“Although my emotional life is currently a blank slate, that doesn’t mean I have to find someone to spend the rest of my life with. Being alone can be just fine. And… I haven’t yet figured out what I want my future to look like.”

Whether to have someone by her side, or to continue alone.

Watching the relationship between Chris and Jessica, Indya sometimes did feel jealous. She would think—how nice it would be to have someone there for her. But those thoughts always vanished in a flash.

Most of the time, Indya preferred to face different challenges—business, work, and all kinds of people surrounding her—this was the not-so-perfect life she had built for herself. She was already used to this kind of life and didn’t want to change it.

The door hadn’t been closed yet. Sam was standing right outside. Hearing the two inside talking about relationship matters, he simply didn’t go in. He just waited quietly at the door.

“I’m really grateful that you came to help—whether it’s for me or for the Wilder Group. You came through in our time of need, and I truly appreciate it. So how about we call it even now?”

Indya casually tucked her long hair behind her ear and looked at Blake.

“You don’t need to keep thinking about how to repay me. Let’s say this time, you helped me. From now on, we’ll just be two equals.”

Blake said, "But I like you. I won’t cause you any trouble. Neither of us can control my heart. And my feelings for you—they’re never going to change."

For a moment, Indya really didn’t know how to respond to Blake.

When she heard footsteps outside the door, she instinctively set down what she was holding and stepped a little away from him.

Then the door was pulled open by Sam.

Standing at the door with him was Anthony.

Anthony wore the air of a man of the house. He gave Indya a slight smile, glanced once at Blake, and then said, “Lunch is ready. Thanks to the supplies Mr. Somerfield brought, we can have something a little better for lunch today.”

Women might not catch the meaning, but men could read it instantly—Anthony’s words had another meaning.

Sam couldn’t help but sneer.

“You and Blake must be tired,” said Indya. “So go ahead and head downstairs. I’ll finish tidying up both rooms.”

With that said, she quickly shoved the two of them out and didn’t follow them.

The door shut behind them, and Indya leaned back against it as she took a deep breath.

What was going on?

When Blake had appeared, Indya had been completely stunned.

Not just because he wasn’t supposed to be here…

But also because, somewhere in the back of her mind, she had a vague feeling.

She had felt that if something happened to her, the first one to come looking… would be Blake.

Maybe it was the way they had talked before that made her sense Blake’s sincerity.

Or maybe she had already known how he felt about her.

Indya had met many men—men who liked her, admired her, or wanted to get close.

Each one could say they would do anything for her.

But when something actually happened—how many could really follow through?

In a place as dangerous as this, when everyone else was trying to escape, only Blake had insisted on coming in—bringing a rescue team with him.
