Chapter 288
Jack had seen Nina arrive with Frederick early in the morning. He was stuck dealing with the Hall family and couldnโt get through, so he could only watch from a distance. Nina put on her sunglasses again, nodded at Jack, and was about to find a place to rest. Frederick did not like having people around while working.
Such treatments needed peace and quiet, as it would affect the patientโs emotions and also the doctorโs judgment. Having known Frederick for so many years, Nina seemed to have only seen Frederick at work once. At other times, she would find a place to wait, and Frederick would naturally look for her when finished. Walking over to Jackโs side, Frederick directly bypassed the members of the Hall family and looked inside through the door and window.
โWho are you?โ Mrs. Zorro stepped forward and tried to reach out to pull Frederick away.
Jack blocked her and said, โThis doctor was brought here from abroad by Captain Felton. Didnโt you say the psychologists at our hospital were incompetent? Dr. Renolds is famous worldwide. You can check for yourselves; no one in the industry is better than him.โ
This explanation made Frederick feel a little embarrassed. He only smiled at Jack and didnโt rush inside; instead, he stood at the door looking through the window. Ever since his return, Luke had spent most of his time daydreaming, sitting there staring at nothing in particular. Whenever someone approached, he would show aggressive tendencies.
Mrs. Zorro wanted to say something else but was probably frightened by Frederickโs title. She sneaked away to check Frederick on her phone. Maybe because she didnโt understand certain words, she ended up searching for a long time. Nothing could be seen from Lukeโs eyes, but Luke was sensitive enough to sense someone at the door and glanced sideways. The windows of this ward were one-way; from outside, one could clearly observe the room, but from the inside, the window and door were almost one piece, so naturally, no one inside could see out. Frederick and Luke watched each other through the door for a long time before Jack opened it.
โDo you need us to go in with you?โ Jack asked nervously. โYesterday, a nurse came to change the dressing but was hit on the shoulder, leaving a large bruise.โ
Almost no nurse wanted to come to this ward now, and care workers even less so. Luke either thrashed out, shouted, or threw anything he could reach. Before nurses and doctors changed the dressing, they had to sedate him first. The patient would be unconscious, then tied up by the limbs before the dressing was changed.
โItโs okay.โ Frederickโs voice was soft and gentle, with no emotion. He didnโt seem to regard patients like Luke highly.
โYou can wait at the door, but leave a crack in the door. Donโt stand too close, and the members of the Hall family canโt either.โ
Jack nodded. โAlright, if anything happens, just call us. Weโll be right outside.โ
Actually, leaving the door ajar wasnโt to call for help, but to distract Lukeโs attention. After being locked up in there too long, Luke must have been eager to go out. The door being ajar would draw Lukeโs gaze and make it easier for him to reveal what was in his heart. The weather outside was nice, and many patients in this hospital were pushed outside by their families to get some fresh air. Mrs. Zorro had argued with Jack earlier because she wanted to take Luke out. She even said Luke was a victim, not a criminal, so why shouldnโt he be allowed out? Jack could only use the doctorโs words to stall, saying that Lukeโs physical condition wasnโt stable enough to go outside. Moving him like that could affect his wounds, so it was best to wait until the wounds scabbed over. Because Luke usually moved violently, his wounds occasionally bled, which looked even more frightening. When nurses changed Lukeโs dressings, almost no one stayed in the room, mainly because the wounds were gruesome and the smell was unpleasant. Jack and others waited at the door.
