Chapter 289
Frederick opened the door slowly.
Luke, however, did not throw anything at him immediately, as usual, not because there were no objects nearby to use.
He looked lifeless, as he sat on the bed, quietly staring out the window. He sensed Frederick had already come to his side.
โWho did you bring this time?โ Lukeโs voice was hoarse, sounding like he had strained his throat shouting a few days ago.
Frederick pulled over a chair and sat beside Lukeโs bed, hands in the pockets of his doctorโs overalls.
โCaptain Felton sent me. Iโm Frederick, a psychologist here to do a psychological assessment.โ Frederick was calm and saw no need to hide this from a patient.
Luke sneered. โPsychologist? My mom said the hospitalโs psychologists were useless. They ran off after I threw something at them. No wonder Roy replaced them so quickly.โ
โI can tell from the sweat on your forehead that this position must be hurting your wound, right?โ Frederick stayed seated and still. โNo need to be so anxious. From the way youโre sitting right now, I can tell that youโre pressing on your wound, which causes it to heal very slowly, and itโs no good to your health either. Thereโs no need to force your pride while sick.โ
Luke remained still.
โThen what? Iโm like a dead fish, tied up and butchered when kidnapped, and itโs the same now that Iโm rescued. Oh no, Iโm still a suspect to Roy, not a victim.โ
โThatโs not how cases work. You donโt have to generalize. The person who hurt you has been caught and will pay the price. As a suspect, you also have to face consequences for your actions.โ
In that sense, maybe the world was fair. But was it really? Was there truly absolute fairness in this world? When you stood at a certain height, the scales of fairness would tip towards you, and you would fall more slowly than ordinary people.
โAlright, weโll start the psychological assessment now. I need you to cooperate and answer some questions.โ Frederick took out a small notebook and a pen. โSince you didnโt attack me when I came in, it means youโre ready. You knew Iโd come and you knew you couldnโt escape.โ
Chris had just finished surgery when he received a call from Felix.
โIโm sorry, Chris. Natalie has gone to your place. Have you seen her?โ Felixโs voice sounded quite anxious.
Chris hadnโt changed out of his surgical gown yet and glanced outside in confusion. The surgery had been scheduled a month ago and went smoothly, lasting five hours.
โNo, Iโve been in surgery, just finished,โ replied Chris.
Felix said, โIโve spoiled Natalie. I think you were rightโnot everyone in the Lawson family has to study medicine. Natalie isnโt cut out for this field. Might as well send her abroad to learn something else. I just mentioned it today, and she got mad.โ
Everyone could tell Natalieโs target was Chris. Her internship applications had been rejected several times by Francesca, and today Natalie came to the Summit Infirmary to ask Chris why. Natalie had arrived at the hospital two hours ago, but she was told that Chris was in surgery. With Francesca blocking her, Natalie couldnโt get into Chrisโs office and had to wait in the lounge for now.
โForget it, some things have to be made clear.โ Chris put his phone aside and got changed. โI apologize in advance.โ
โNo problem. Be harsh to her if you need to.โ
