Chapter 309
Indya sighed, placing her hand over her eyes to block out all light. She said, “Let me think about it.”
Previously, Anthony had met with Indya. At first, Indya refused to see him, but for some reason, after whatever Anthony said, the two of them ended up sitting in the cafe downstairs from the company for an entire afternoon. Before that meeting, Indya’s attitude toward Blake had been fairly good. She had even seemed willing to accept Blake’s pursuit. But after that meeting, Indya began to distance herself from him. All of this was what Shannon had said.
She was worried and had wanted to ask what Anthony had told her, but Jessica stopped her. Indya’s own matters were hers to resolve–she didn’t need anyone else’s help. “You all should get some rest first," Jessica said. They were staying in a suite, as were Blake and Indya, who lived next door. “Do you think those two…” Chris asked after watching Indya leave and shut the door. “Do you think there’s some kind of problem?” Jessica nodded. She could tell that Indya did like Blake. Someone as good-looking as Blake–unless one was blind–feeling an attraction was only natural. But if she clearly felt that attraction, and someone like him said he wanted to pursue her, Indya should at least give him a chance. Things had been fine before. It must have been something Anthony said. “Forget it, don’t overthink. After flying all day you’re tired. Come here, I’ll give you a massage,” Chris said when he noticed Jessica rubbing her temples again. He patted his leg, inviting her to lie down. The spacious room carried the hotel’s signature fragrance. They leaned against each other. The atmosphere grew more and more heated.
When a waiter came pushing a cart with dinner, Chris only rasped out a hoarse, “Leave it at the door.” Shannon and the kids from the team stayed on a lower floor. The next morning, she took them to the venue, while the others slept in. When Jessica opened her eyes, she immediately felt the warmth beside her. Chris was still half-asleep, disturbed only by messages on his phone. It seemed to be Francesca reporting on the hospital’s situation. After all, he was still the chairman–he couldn’t just ignore everything. Most matters were relayed to Chris by Francesca. That included updates on the Hall family. “After Frederick finished Luke’s diagnosis, he was to be transferred to the police hospital. Mrs. Zorro begged Thomas to provide money to smooth things over, but he refused. Now the two families are about to quarrel.” Hearing such explosive news first thing in the morning jolted Jessica wide awake. But she didn’t get up. She only clung tighter to Chris and said in a muffled voice, “If they fight, that’s good. The more chaotic it gets, the more chances we’ll have.”
Indya had gotten up earlier than that couple and took Blake to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. “The Cherian breakfast here is pretty good. Sam said you should have things that are more easy to digest–it’s good for your stomach.” Indya placed a bowl of oat porridge in front of Blake. She herself yawned as she sat across from him, dressed simply in pajamas, her hair a messy tangle. Without makeup, she looked more natural, more like everyday life–and even cuter. It wasn’t the first time Blake had seen Indya like this, but he felt that, in this moment, they were closer than ever. “Where do you want to go?” asked Indya, propping her chin on her hand. Blake said, “Anywhere is fine. I just want to take you out.” Every visit to Lonat had been for work, and he had never had time for himself. Indya thought for a moment. “Let’s go to the mall. I can buy some things for colleagues, and check out the new seasonal collections. The last time I went shopping might have been three years ago.”
