Chapter 59
Shannon actually thought it wasnโt a bad thing. If Michael hadnโt shown up, Jessica and Chris might have continued to waste time. Chris wouldnโt have taken the initiative to leave, and Jessica wouldnโt have realized how important Chris was to her. So in her opinion, Michael was actually a bonding agent between the two of them. A temporary separation didnโt matter. What mattered was that something had changed.
Jessica finally managed to slip away. Rubbing her wrist, red from being grabbed, she returned to Shannonโs side. The latter handed her a juice with a grin of gratitude. โThe โbrideโ finally has time to come back.โ
Jessica gave her a glare. She thought, if her mother ever found out about this, who knew how furious sheโd get. Thankfully, her mother disdained the Hall family and wouldnโt attend their banquet.
Her wrist had been gripped for quite a while, and it took a long time for the redness to fade. Jessica stood quietly in a corner the whole time, shielded by Indya and Shannon to avoid being spotted by the Hall family.
โHas that woman left the hotel?โ
Indya glanced at a message and shook her head. The banquet was about to begin โ could it be she really wasnโt coming? The Hall family had built their current status through marriage alliances. After they succeeded, they kicked her aside, and Michael had quickly returned to Cheria with his daughter. A woman who was chosen for a political marriage couldnโt be simple. How could she possibly allow the Hall family to bleed her dry and walk away unscathed?
Jessica wasnโt too worried. She firmly believed that woman would appear. Besides, she had given her the opportunity. Originally, the Cloud Hotel was owned by the Hall family, so Jessica couldnโt plant anyone directly inside. Instead, she quietly booked several rooms on the same floor and arranged for Calum to stay there.
Thomas took the stage with his wife โ the banquet was about to begin.
When Chris arrived in Tesalfield, his mind was completely focused on the joint consultation. He didnโt even have time to message Jessica. From morning till night, he was busy. As soon as he changed at the hotel, he was called out to dinner.
โNo wonder heโs a senior professor,โ said Jake. โDid you see todayโs surgical plan? Itโs a bit risky.โ
โThe child is too young โ any plan is risky. But thereโs no choice. Without this surgery, the child wonโt even be able to get out of bed in the future. Heโs only two.โ
Jake was very curious. โWho is this childโs family, anyway?โ
Chris had heard his mentor mention it briefly โ apparently, he was the grandson of the Goldman Groupโs CEO. The Goldman Group was a long-established name in the building materials industry. Even now, over 70% of construction materials still used their products. That showed just how powerful they were in real estate. The grandson of such a CEO would naturally have a prestigious identity.
โRich people really are different. Even old specialists who hadnโt operated in years were called back. Money can make ghosts turn millstones.โ
โMoney opens doors in many things. But as doctors, we should treat everyone equally.โ
The two of them were eating at a restaurant near the hotel. Tesalfield cuisine leaned sweet, which Chris actually liked, but Jake found too heavy and barely ate. Just then, loud arguing erupted from the table next to them.
As the shouting escalated, several wine bottles were thrown. One of them smashed against the wall right behind Chris, and a shard of glass slashed across his neck โ blood immediately started seeping out.
โHey!โ Jake shot to his feet, pointing angrily at the other table. โWhat the hell are you doing?โ
He rushed to Chrisโs side and turned his chin to check the wound. โItโs bleeding a lot โ hold on, Iโll grab some tissues.โ
The fight grew worse. Someone was punched to the ground and began foaming at the mouth. But Jake, focused on treating Chrisโs wound, didnโt notice that someone had collapsed.
