Chapter 62

โ€œYouโ€™re just a woman, what do you know? My brother is dead, and itโ€™s all your husbandโ€™s fault! What now, youโ€™re refusing to pay, is that it?โ€

They had finally gotten to the real reason.

Jessica raised her hand slightly, and the police and lawyers entered immediately.

At the sight of the police, the deceasedโ€™s family members were startled.

The deceasedโ€™s brother was the first to react. He pointed at Chris and shouted, โ€œOfficers, arrest him! Heโ€™s the one who killed my brother! Arrest him now!โ€

The officer in charge walked directly up to them.

โ€œRegarding the online rumors circulating recently, after our investigation, weโ€™ve concluded that they are false accusations. We have video and surveillance footage as evidence. Mr. Greenโ€™s emergency procedures were not at fault. The ambulanceโ€™s recorder confirms the deceased was still breathing and even thanked Mr. Green. Youโ€™ve fabricated stories and caused public disturbances. Youโ€™re coming with us.โ€

The entire group was taken away.

The legal representative arrived just a moment too late and walked up to Jessicaโ€™s side.

Jessica said, โ€œGo after every single person online who incited public opinionโ€“donโ€™t let any of them off the hook.โ€

โ€œUnderstood.โ€

The troublemakers and the onlookers dispersed, leaving only the hospital staff behind.

They were surprised by Jessicaโ€™s commanding presence, but once they heard she was Chrisโ€™s wife, they said nothing more and left quietly.

However, Jake had been staring in a daze ever since seeing Jessica.

He had seen her before at the hospital and naturally recognized her as a major benefactor.

He never expected that Chris was actually Jessicaโ€™s husband!

The one that people said Jessica had cheated on!

โ€œNo wayโ€ฆ youโ€™re that Wilder familyโ€™s son-in-law?โ€ Jake pointed at Chris, jaw nearly dropping.

With Jessica at his side, Chris felt much more grounded. He smiled and nodded.

Jake bumped his shoulder playfully. โ€œUnbelievable! I told you so many rumors, and you didnโ€™t even tell me the truth! You owe me dinner!โ€

Since Jessica had come, Chris naturally had to stay with her.

โ€œWeโ€™ll talk about it when we get back.โ€

Once they got into the car, Jessica reached out and turned Chrisโ€™s head to face her.

Back when she saw him from outside the crowd, she had already noticed the wound on the side of his face. But with so many people watching, she had to deal with the situation first.

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you tell me you were injured?โ€ Jessica frowned.

The wound was still red, and on Chrisโ€™s face, it stood out starkly.

โ€œItโ€™s nothing serious,โ€ Chris held her hand, trying to distract her. "You came all this way just because of such a small matter?โ€

To Jessica, anything involving him was never a small matter.

At some point, something inside her had changed.

She quickly caught herself and began blaming him for not telling her.

โ€œI knew something was off from your voice that day. Tell me, why didnโ€™t you say anything? You were hurt, falsely accused, and you kept it from me?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m a man. I have my own ways to handle things. Besides, that family just wanted money, and I didnโ€™t have any. If it came down to it, I wouldnโ€™t mind going to court. The hospital knew I did nothing wrong.โ€

Chris spoke with conviction, just as he always did. But by not telling her, it meant he didnโ€™t trust her.

To Jessica, this was something that could have been resolved in a single sentence.

With just a word, the legal team and the police could have cleared his name.

Instead, he had chosen to bear it all on his own.

The Summit Infirmary team wasnโ€™t leaving until the next day, so Jessica also planned to stay the night.

Shannon booked a hotel for her.

After dinner, Chris didnโ€™t get the chance to return to his dorm.

โ€œCome on, I should really head backโ€“I still need to pack,โ€ he said.

But Jessica clung to him tightly, refusing to let go.

โ€œI let you go on one business trip and you get yourself injured and dragged into a scandal. Looks like I canโ€™t let you go on business trips anymore.โ€

Chrisโ€™s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly explained, โ€œIt was just an accident!โ€
