Episode 139

“Elijah, ditching the luxury chariots for this old jalopy? What happened?”

Elijah stepped from the car, his face impassive, and brushed past Albin without a word. Oliver calmly explained, “Mr. Norris’s car was in the shop when you called. Since mine was at the office, I drove it here.”

Elijah’s cold gaze fell upon Oliver. “You’ve gotten quite talkative, haven’t you?” Albin’s shock was evident. Elijah’s car usually underwent swift maintenance—VIP service meant no lines and only an hour or two for routine checks. He never hurried, not even for multi-million-dollar deals. But today, his urgency was palpable. Could this suggest he actually cared about Elizabeth?

Everyone had assumed his marriage to Elizabeth was a reckless act, a defiance of his family after seizing control—a rebellion against being separated from Sandra. To the world, she was a modern-day Cinderella, enjoying a life of luxury as a pampered wife. People believed she adored Elijah, though she appeared little more than a glorified servant in their mansion. No one anticipated her assertion of independence, her departure not only empty-handed but also leaving behind twenty million dollars for Elijah.

Despite his usual detachment, Elijah was unprepared to release her and finalize their divorce. Was their relationship so fundamentally misunderstood? Perhaps even Elijah himself hadn’t fully grasped his own developing emotions.

Albin’s lips curled into a knowing smirk, a flicker of secret triumph in his eyes, hinting at his possession of the truth amidst the general misunderstanding.

Once the conversation concluded, Oliver promptly started his car and drove away. Looking around, Elijah realized they were near the neighborhood he’d once visited to collect Elizabeth. He hadn’t expected her to be so cautious, to mislead him with a false address.
