Episode 26

Clearly, the rumors were true—Sandra had always been Elijah’s beloved.

Not wanting to appear negligent, the director hastened to greet them, script in hand and a welcoming smile on his face. “Mr. Norris, Sandra, welcome. Here’s the script for today’s audition. You’ll be reading the same scene as Elizabeth and Stewart, so we can compare your performances.”

Elijah, startled, paused. The realization struck him: Elizabeth wasn't here for him. She was auditioning.

He immediately recognized the look on her face from earlier—a look reserved for fools. He scanned the room, spotting Elizabeth in the most inconspicuous corner. Beside her sat Stewart; both were deeply engaged in conversation, their laughter echoing softly, oblivious to Elijah’s presence.

The sight of Elizabeth laughing so freely felt like a blatant affront, especially after her earlier coldness. Yet there she was, seemingly captivated by someone else. Stewart was merely a handsome face, lacking substance. Elijah wondered what they could possibly find so engaging. How had Elizabeth become so friendly with industry figures after her long hiatus?

From the corner of his eye, Elijah noticed Stewart sipping from a soda can, identical to Elizabeth’s, further fueling his annoyance. So, that soda had been intended for him.

Sandra sensed the storm brewing on Elijah’s face and worried about a potential quarrel exposing their relationship. With a swift gesture, she interjected, her voice laced with disbelief, “I never imagined the director was considering Elizabeth for the role.”

This ignited Elijah’s irritation. He shot a cold, piercing look at Elva, who had just entered. Had Elva mentioned Elizabeth’s audition sooner, he could have avoided this embarrassment.

Under Elijah’s intense gaze, Elva felt a chill, though she pretended ignorance. Just as Elijah was about to confront her, the director called out, “Is everyone ready? Shall we begin?” Elizabeth and Stewart approached, confirming their readiness in unison.
