Episode 51
Hidden cameras discreetly documented their every move, capturing the urgency of their journey.
In the hospital room, Sandra lay on the cot, her face pale and lips colorless, looking even more fragile than before. As Elijah entered, she started to greet him, but her gaze fell on the bouquet Oliver subtly held behind his back. Her eyes lit up.
“They’re stunning!” she murmured, a faint but heartfelt smile gracing her lips. She cautiously attempted to sit up, using her elbows for support.
“Please, stay still,” Elijah insisted, quickly assisting her. He gently cradled her head, easing her back onto the cushion.
At that moment, Ms. Sophia entered, carrying Sandra’s medication, observing the tender interaction. She approached swiftly, her tone laced with worry.
“You need proper rest. ‘Blazing Sun’ is about to begin production. How do you intend to join the team if you’re not well? We can’t risk breaching the agreement because of your condition.”
Oliver placed the flowers beside her cot and silently left. Sandra reached out, her fingers softly brushing the petals as she smiled faintly at Ms. Sophia.
“You fret too much, Ms. Sophia.”
Elijah’s expression tightened. His voice was low but careful as he broached a sensitive topic. “Maybe… it’s time to think about stepping away from the spotlight. I can take care of anything you need. If performing is still your passion, perhaps transitioning into a producer’s role would suit you…”
Sandra shook her head, her smile persistent, her eyes resolute. “I’m not like Elizabeth, Elijah. I can’t imagine relying on someone else. The James family, everyone… they all seem to believe I’m after your wealth…”
Cutting her off, Elijah declared firmly, “Sandra, I’ve never thought that, and you shouldn’t let their judgments bother you.”
Sandra lowered her gaze, a wistful smile playing on her lips. “Even if I manage to block out their gossip, I can’t silence my own doubts. I’ve always felt unsure around you. You radiate brilliance, while I feel like a simple bloom in the background. Acting… it gives me a sense of worth, making me feel like I deserve to be near you, even if only as an ally…” Her voice trailed off, tinged with weariness.
“I understand,” Elijah said, nodding. He found it hard to deny her wishes, unlike with others. He carefully adjusted the quilt around her, tucking her in snugly. “Follow the doctor’s orders. I’ll be concerned if your health falters. And remember, I respect your choices. Outside of acting, let Ms. Sophia manage the trivial matters. If it becomes too much for her, I’ll step in to support you.”
Ms. Sophia, listening quietly, sighed deeply. “Sandra is far too trusting to handle their manipulative games.”
