Chapter 113
The servant said, โMs. Whitaker wasnโt feeling well and wanted you to come back and check on her.โ
As soon as he finished speaking, it sounded like a womanโs voice came from the other end of the phone. The servant thought maybe they were talking about work with Kieran. Kieran was so busy, so he probably wasnโt coming back, and she had to get the driver to take Roschelle to the hospital soon.
But Kieran said, โGot it, Iโll come back right now.โ
At first, the servant was a bit surprised: โYou can come back? Werenโt you really busy?โ
Kieran grunted and said, โFrom now on, tell me right away if anything happens with Rose. Iโll come back and take care of it.โ
The call ended, and the servant got a new sense of how much Roschelle meant to Kieran. Workaholic Kieran actually put Roschelle before work. There was surprise in the servantsโ eyes.
Roschelle opened the door, looking a bit pale, โSo, is Kier coming back?โ
The servant smiled and told her, โMs. Whitaker asked about this, but you know how much you mean to Mr. Argent. Mr. Argent will be back with you soon.โ
Roschelle gave a sweet smile and said, โOkay, thank you guys.โ
After she closed the door, the smile on Roschelleโs face disappeared instantly. She couldnโt wait and leaned out the window, staring hard, wanting to see Kieranโs car drive into the villa right away.
Alarieka looked at the man packing up to leave, her lips curling in sarcasm: โMr. Argent, you sure have a short memory. Did you forget you already had a beautiful wife at home when you came looking for me?โ
After they came out of the cemetery, Kieran just pinned her down. In the cafe, Kieran didnโt say anything, and then Roschelle got a call. Then Kieran just wanted to leave without saying a word.
Kieran buttoned up his suit jacket, frowned, and said in a low voice, โRose isnโt feeling well. Iโll go back and check on her.โ
Alarieka stood up quickly and turned to look out the window. Jaylene had already been waiting at the cafe door for a while. She left even more decisively than Kieran.
โFrom now on, unless it was about finding out who drugged me that day, donโt come to me. I was worried Roschelle would get jealous and take it out on me again.โ
Alarieka spoke calmly and steadily, but no one could see the storm in her heart.
Kieranโs deep voice came from behind her: โI had someone take youโฆโ
Alaricka didnโt answer, just walked away quickly. When they went back, Alaricka and Jaylene took the bus.
There were a lot of people on the bus, so they could only stand. Alaricka stood behind Jaylene and happened to see Jayleneโs phone screen. Jaylene was looking for a part-time job.
Alaricka remembered Jayleneโs family troubles, and her heart sank. Jaylene was in her crucial senior year. Even if she didnโt plan to join the exam week review, her classes were so heavy that she couldnโt go out and get a part-time job.
Back then, Jaylene worked at the nightclub just because the pay was good. But back then, where could you even find a decent job with high pay and good hours?
She also saw Jaylene frowning, swiping at her phone screen a bit irritably. Alarieka already saw the messages where she was rejected by a lot of HRs on the job app.
After getting out of the bus, Jaylene suddenly said, โAlarieka, how about I drop out of school? I donโt want to study anymore.โ
Alariekaโs eyebrows twitched. Before, Jaylene had always worked at Calvinโs nightclub, and so much stuff had never happened in her life. So Jaylene used the money she earned from her part-time job to support herself and her grandma. She didnโt drop out of school, but she didnโt really study hard either.
In the end, she only got into a vocational school that didnโt require an entrance exam. Jaylene studied computer science at school and unexpectedly found out she had a talent for computers and was interested in them. By then, her journey in tech just couldnโt be stopped.
If in this life, Jaylene decided to drop out of school, then how could anything after that have happened? Alarieka not only wanted to team up with Jaylene, but also didnโt want to see someone as talented as Jaylene get buried by poverty.
Jaylene turned off her phone and looked at the sky with a confused look. The last bit of sunlight fell on her still young face. Her eyes were already misty. She didnโt look like a high school girl, but more like an adult worn down by life.
