Chapter 113

The servant said, โ€œMs. Whitaker wasnโ€™t feeling well and wanted you to come back and check on her.โ€

As soon as he finished speaking, it sounded like a womanโ€™s voice came from the other end of the phone. The servant thought maybe they were talking about work with Kieran. Kieran was so busy, so he probably wasnโ€™t coming back, and she had to get the driver to take Roschelle to the hospital soon.

But Kieran said, โ€œGot it, Iโ€™ll come back right now.โ€

At first, the servant was a bit surprised: โ€œYou can come back? Werenโ€™t you really busy?โ€

Kieran grunted and said, โ€œFrom now on, tell me right away if anything happens with Rose. Iโ€™ll come back and take care of it.โ€

The call ended, and the servant got a new sense of how much Roschelle meant to Kieran. Workaholic Kieran actually put Roschelle before work. There was surprise in the servantsโ€™ eyes.

Roschelle opened the door, looking a bit pale, โ€œSo, is Kier coming back?โ€

The servant smiled and told her, โ€œMs. Whitaker asked about this, but you know how much you mean to Mr. Argent. Mr. Argent will be back with you soon.โ€

Roschelle gave a sweet smile and said, โ€œOkay, thank you guys.โ€

After she closed the door, the smile on Roschelleโ€™s face disappeared instantly. She couldnโ€™t wait and leaned out the window, staring hard, wanting to see Kieranโ€™s car drive into the villa right away.

Alarieka looked at the man packing up to leave, her lips curling in sarcasm: โ€œMr. Argent, you sure have a short memory. Did you forget you already had a beautiful wife at home when you came looking for me?โ€

After they came out of the cemetery, Kieran just pinned her down. In the cafe, Kieran didnโ€™t say anything, and then Roschelle got a call. Then Kieran just wanted to leave without saying a word.

Kieran buttoned up his suit jacket, frowned, and said in a low voice, โ€œRose isnโ€™t feeling well. Iโ€™ll go back and check on her.โ€

Alarieka stood up quickly and turned to look out the window. Jaylene had already been waiting at the cafe door for a while. She left even more decisively than Kieran.

โ€œFrom now on, unless it was about finding out who drugged me that day, donโ€™t come to me. I was worried Roschelle would get jealous and take it out on me again.โ€

Alarieka spoke calmly and steadily, but no one could see the storm in her heart.

Kieranโ€™s deep voice came from behind her: โ€œI had someone take youโ€ฆโ€

Alaricka didnโ€™t answer, just walked away quickly. When they went back, Alaricka and Jaylene took the bus.

There were a lot of people on the bus, so they could only stand. Alaricka stood behind Jaylene and happened to see Jayleneโ€™s phone screen. Jaylene was looking for a part-time job.

Alaricka remembered Jayleneโ€™s family troubles, and her heart sank. Jaylene was in her crucial senior year. Even if she didnโ€™t plan to join the exam week review, her classes were so heavy that she couldnโ€™t go out and get a part-time job.

Back then, Jaylene worked at the nightclub just because the pay was good. But back then, where could you even find a decent job with high pay and good hours?

She also saw Jaylene frowning, swiping at her phone screen a bit irritably. Alarieka already saw the messages where she was rejected by a lot of HRs on the job app.

After getting out of the bus, Jaylene suddenly said, โ€œAlarieka, how about I drop out of school? I donโ€™t want to study anymore.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s eyebrows twitched. Before, Jaylene had always worked at Calvinโ€™s nightclub, and so much stuff had never happened in her life. So Jaylene used the money she earned from her part-time job to support herself and her grandma. She didnโ€™t drop out of school, but she didnโ€™t really study hard either.

In the end, she only got into a vocational school that didnโ€™t require an entrance exam. Jaylene studied computer science at school and unexpectedly found out she had a talent for computers and was interested in them. By then, her journey in tech just couldnโ€™t be stopped.

If in this life, Jaylene decided to drop out of school, then how could anything after that have happened? Alarieka not only wanted to team up with Jaylene, but also didnโ€™t want to see someone as talented as Jaylene get buried by poverty.

Jaylene turned off her phone and looked at the sky with a confused look. The last bit of sunlight fell on her still young face. Her eyes were already misty. She didnโ€™t look like a high school girl, but more like an adult worn down by life.
