Chapter 114
Jaylene said softly, โMy grandma was sick, really sick, and it took a lot of money to get her better.โ
Alariekaโs heart skipped a beat.
In the previous life, after a few years, she never heard about Lorelai again.
I guess I probably died around this time before.
Tears suddenly welled up in Jayleneโs eyes, but she stubbornly sniffed so they wouldnโt fall.
โA few days ago, I actually didnโt go to school either. I was at the hospital with my grandma the whole time. Most of my familyโs savings already went to the hospital. I didnโt really have any money left. There were only a few dozen dollars in my account. Maybe in a few days, I wouldnโt even be able to afford food.โ
Alarieka was about to say something, but Jaylene cut her off seamlessly.
โI thought at least the hospital was a good place, fair and just, but even though I paid the hospital fee, my grandma was still kicked out of the ward by the doctors and nurses.โ
Jaylene sniffled, and tears fell from the corners of her eyes. โMy grandma is living in the hospital hallway now. The person who took my grandmaโs room was really rich and had people helping them. I couldnโt fight them.โ
Alarieka frowned hard. โWhat? Letโs go to the hospital and check it out right now.โ
Jaylene chose a top hospital in the city for Lorelai. It was really famous, and a lot of patients and their families came from out of town. The hospital was packed, and the hallways were crowded with people. It was really hard to walk.
After walking for quite a while, Jaylene finally brought Alarieka to Lorelaiโs hospital bed.
Jaylene walked up to a hospital bed in the hallway. The old woman was lying in the middle of the bed, and Jaylene carefully helped her up.
โCome on, Grandma, be careful.โ
Alarieka walked over and nodded to her grandma. โMrs. Cowan, hello, Iโm Jayleneโs classmate.โ
Lorelaiโs cheeks were sunken. She looked really old, so old that even her eyes were sunken in. There was a heavy, sickly look on her face, but she still smiled at her kindly.
โHi classmate, sometimes Jaylene acts a bit noisy. I hope you can be more tolerant.โ
Alarieka shook her head. โNo, sheโs a good classmate.โ
In the conversation between Lorelai and Jaylene, she found out that Lorelai had uterine cancer and it was already late-stage.
She quietly took a few steps back, checking out the hallway.
According to Jaylene, Lorelai was originally living in the hospital room, but later people kicked her out into the hallway. The ward was that multi-bed room up to the left, in front.
There were still a lot of people in this shared ward, and she couldnโt tell yet which bedโs patient had taken Lorelaiโs spot.
After Jaylene and Lorelai finished talking, she pulled Jaylene aside and asked her in a low voice, โWhich family is it? Iโll go take a look.โ
Jaylene shook her head and pressed her lips together. โThereโs nothing you can do, Alarieka. I made a fuss before too, but the hospital just didnโt care.โ
Alarieka stubbornly said, โHow do you know if you donโt try? We canโt just let others bully Mrs. Cowan like this.โ
Jaylene looked up, staring at her in a daze.
Alarieka said, โJust tell me which hospital bed it was.โ
After finding out about the bed, Alarieka strode into the ward and immediately saw a middle-aged man sitting on the hospital bed in the corner, head down, happily eating fried chicken and drinking Coke. He didnโt look like a patient at all.
That is to say, this man maybe wasnโt that sick.
Alarieka got a lot angrier all of a sudden.
There were some people standing around the bed, probably the patientโs family.
She walked into the crowd. At first, she still kept basic manners and wasnโt too abrupt.
โExcuse me, where did the previous patient in this bed go?โ
The middle-aged man and his family looked at her suspiciously and just said, โIn the hallway outside the ward. Go out and look. The person youโre looking for isnโt here.โ
Alarieka was still very polite and spoke gently. โI just wanted to ask, how come the previous patient suddenly moved to the hallway instead of staying in the ward?โ
The middle-aged man noticed something was wrong, threw the fried chicken into the bucket, and with his mouth still covered in chicken crumbs, he bared his teeth and said:
โWhat? Youโre that old ladyโs family, and wanted to get justice for her?โ
The middle-aged man sneered, โThen let me tell you, itโs because youโre poor, so poor you almost couldnโt even pay the hospital bills. Iโve got people backing me. I think youโd better stop causing trouble. Just pay up or get someone to stand up for you.โ
