Chapter 19
His voice was cold, his emotion familiar and irresistible, and his tone as pushy as ever when he said, โApologize, or leave the Argent family for good!โ
Alarieka said, โItโs meaningless now.โ
Tamika was puzzled. โWhat?โ
Alarieka withdrew her hand and replied in a lukewarm tone, โNothing. Go home.โ
Tamika stared at her. โTalk it through with Clarissa when you get back. You two live under the same roof, after all.โ
โLetโs talk about it later.โ
The incident happened in the morning, but by the afternoon, it had spread across the campus.
To Alarieka, it wasnโt a bad thing.
Afterward, Clarissa was taken to the hospital. Her sidekicks, who had made trouble for Alarieka at the market, didnโt dare to provoke her again.
As usual, Alarieka came to the bus station after class. Bored, she took out her notebook to memorize new words.
A horn honked and interrupted her.
She looked up. A man got out of the passenger seat of the familiar RollsโRoyce.
It was Kieranโs assistant, Jaume.
โMs. Huston, please.โ
He mechanically opened the door behind the passenger seat.
Only then did it occur to Alarieka that, in her previous life, she had lived in the luxurious bungalow Kieran had bought.
Kieran didnโt invite her. She had shamelessly insisted on living there, saying the house was closer to her university.
Surely, she wouldnโt make that mistake again.
So, she rejected, โNo need. Iโm going to the Argentโs villa.โ
Surprised, the assistant hesitantly turned to the man sitting in the back seat. โMr. Argent.โ
Alarieka was astonished.
Kieran had come personally to pick her up?
Just then, Kieran got out of the vehicle. In a fitting, customized suit, he was quite striking in the crowd.
โAlarieka, do you want me to tie you up, or are you gonna come over yourself?โ
Huh, the usual aggressive control freak.
There was no way Alarieka could fight him in this.
The haughty Kieran wouldnโt take no for an answer.
In the back seat, Alarieka held her schoolbag tightly in case the incident from that morning reoccurred.
Chapter 18
The RollsโRoyce drove away. At first, neither she nor Kieran spoke. Then, she realized they werenโt going in the direction of the Argentโs villa.
Alarieka frowned. โNot your place. I wanna go to the Argentโs villa.โ
Kieran closed the file in his hands with a snap.
He slowly took off his glasses and said in a hoarse voice, โWhat are you mad about?โ
Alarieka ignored him. โLet me out. I can go back on my own.โ
Then, Kieran ordered, โShow her.โ
Jaume, who sat in the passenger seat, turned his head and handed Alarieka a document. โMs. Huston, here are the findings of our investigation. Please have a look.โ
After a vigilant look at Kieran, she took the document.
It was dead silence in the vehicle except for the sound of her turning the paper.
Alarieka suddenly laughed.
Jaume looked at Kieran cautiously through the rearview mirror and decided to bite the bullet.
โMs. Huston, according to our investigation, a domestic worker in the villa drugged Mr. Argent, not Ms. Whitaker. Please donโt misunderstand.โ
Alarieka closed the flawless report with a sneer.
This was exactly what happened in her previous life.
Despite Kieranโs investigation, the culprit, Roschelle, got away eventually and made someone else a scapegoat.
Alarieka had been fooled last time until Roschelle โkindlyโ told her the truth.
She looked at Kieran, her eyes full of mockery. โKieran, itโs OK that you wanna protect your beloved woman. I get it.โ
Kieranโs brows knitted into a knot as he tried to hold back his anger.
