Chapter 300

Gritting her teeth, she snapped a photo of Alariekaโ€™s back and immediately sent it to Kieran Argent.

Perhaps nearing lunch break, Kieran replied instantly: โ€œ?โ€

The housemaid froze, unprepared for his unprecedented promptness. Previously, heโ€™d only respond hours after her full reports.

Without overthinking, she clumsily typed: โ€œMr. Argent, Ms. Huston insists on going out alone. She refuses to let me accompany her despite all persuasion.โ€

Within thirty seconds of sending, Kieranโ€™s call rang through.

Auntie answered immediately: โ€œMr. Argent.โ€

Kieranโ€™s low voice came through: โ€œWhere is she going?โ€

The auntโ€™s voice dropped even lower: โ€œMs. Huston wouldnโ€™t tell me. Sheโ€ฆ she doesnโ€™t want you to know where sheโ€™s going.โ€

Expecting Kieranโ€™s anger, the aunt was surprised when he only gave a faint โ€œhmmโ€: โ€œIf she says not to follow, then donโ€™t.โ€

Who knew this seemingly intimidating Mr. Argent could be surprisingly reasonable? Sheโ€™d braced for a scolding.

The aunt quietly sighed in relief: โ€œAlright.โ€

Kieran asked: โ€œAnything else?โ€

Remembering another matter, the aunt cleared her throat: โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œGo on.โ€

The housekeeper glanced left and right, covering the phoneโ€™s mic as she lowered her voice. โ€œMr. Argent, I felt something was off this morning. Ms. Hustonโ€™s phone kept ringing nonstopโ€”dozens of calls from unknown numbers.โ€

โ€œI asked Ms. Huston about it, but she wouldnโ€™t explain,โ€ she added, warily eyeing the direction Alarieka had gone. Only after confirming Alarieka was out of sight did she continue, relieved,

โ€œSeriously, those unknown numbers kept flooding in. Ms. Huston blocked them one after another, but more just kept coming. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s a scamโ€”theyโ€™re after her money.โ€

โ€œBut sheโ€™s just a high school student! Where would she get money besides what her parents give her? If she gets scammed, itโ€™d be disastrous! I urged her to fix this ASAP. I wanted to help, but no matter what I asked, she shut me out.โ€

โ€œSo I begged her to reach out to you. I pleaded forever, talked till my throat went dry, but she refused. I couldnโ€™t just watch her get tricked, so here I am. What should we do?โ€

She spoke rapidly, pausing to catch her breath after her long rant.

Had Alarieka heard this, sheโ€™d have laughed. Even now, the housekeeper still believed those calls were scams.

She waited, expecting a grave or urgent response from Kieran. Instead, his tone sounded almost casual.

โ€œI know.โ€

The housekeeper froze, disbelief washing over her. She pressed harder,

โ€œMr. Argent, this is serious! Earlier I saw onlineโ€”countless people are sharing Ms. Hustonโ€™s number! That means scammers have her personal details. Theyโ€™re cunning; police say they tailor scams to each victim. Sheโ€™s in real danger! We must act fast!โ€

โ€œBesides, sheโ€™s out alone right now. What if more scam calls come? Sheโ€™s just a studentโ€”how can she handle professional fraudsters?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve heard storiesโ€”once moneyโ€™s stolen, even police canโ€™t get it back. Right?โ€

Kieran gave a noncommittal โ€œHmm.โ€

Frustrated and puzzled, the housekeeper held back. Sheโ€™d done her part. If things went south now, it wasnโ€™t on her. Sheโ€™d genuinely warned Alarieka multiple times. If neither Alarieka nor Kieran cared, why should she, an outsider, stress?

Her mind made up, her tone lightened. โ€œWell, Mr. Argent, thatโ€™s all. May Iโ€”โ€

Suddenly, she recalled Alariekaโ€™s earlier words.

Hesitating briefly, she debated whether to tell him.

After a pause, she decided.

After all, these arenโ€™t my words. Ms. Huston said them. Not my problem.

โ€œMr. Argent, thereโ€™s one more thingโ€ฆโ€

โ€œSpeak.โ€

The auntโ€™s tone wasnโ€™t as confident as before; instead, it sounded shaky.

โ€œJust now, I advised Ms. Huston to ask you about those strange calls, but she refused and even said somethingโ€ฆโ€
