Chapter 400

A bellyful of questions swirled inside Shi Yao, but she didnโ€™t dare voice them. She bottled them up until she choked on her own frustration.

โ€œSo how do you want to settle this?โ€

Right then, Ryan drove into the Residential Neighborhood parking lot.

Years ago, after Alarieka earned her first fortune, she bought a luxury flat near her company. Jaylene soon followed, purchasing a unit there too.

Jaylene originally bought the apartment across from Alariekaโ€™s, but Ryan convinced her to take the unit downstairs instead. That made Ryan Alariekaโ€™s across-the-hall neighbor.

Alarieka stepped out of the car, muttering, โ€œWhat choice is there? Would Kieran really ditch this deal?โ€

Ryan locked the car and grabbed her arm. โ€œMeaning what? Youโ€™re meeting him? Last time you โ€˜talkedโ€™ with Mr. Johnson from Keyuan face-to-face.โ€

Alarieka shrugged, turning to meet his gazeโ€”then froze at the intensity in his eyes.

Ryanโ€™s stare was usually icy and detached, like he couldnโ€™t be bothered. Now it was all tension, locked on hers, demanding answers.

Alarieka blinked. โ€œYouโ€™ve got beef with Kieran? Since when?โ€

Ryanโ€™s jaw tightened, frustration etching his features. โ€œYeah, I do. So spillโ€”whatโ€™s your move?โ€

โ€œWhat grudge could you possibly have with him?โ€

Alarieka eyed him skeptically. โ€œYouโ€™re bluffing, arenโ€™t you?โ€

Ryan gripped her arm harder. โ€œJust tell me your plan. If you canโ€™t handle it, I will.โ€

Alarieka twisted her arm free, scowling. โ€œWhat else? Obviouslyโ€”โ€

โ€œRyan.โ€

A trembling, tear-choked voice sliced through the parking garage.

Both whipped toward the sound.

There stood Cutie Pie in a white miniskirtโ€”young, delicate, porcelain skin glowing under the lights. Her round eyes were red-rimmed and swimming, tears threatening to spill.

Her gaze snagged on Ryanโ€™s hand still gripping Alariekaโ€™s arm. Tears fell. โ€œRyanโ€ฆ is she your girlfriend? The one Grandpa mentioned?โ€

The scene reeked of a cheating scandalโ€ฆ

Alariekaโ€™s eyebrows shot up, amused eyes darting to Ryan.

Ryan paled, glancing between Alarieka and Cutie Pie.

โ€œWhy are you here? Does your family know you came?โ€

He scowled. โ€œItโ€™s late. Get home. Now.โ€

Cutie Pie swiped at her tears, voice cracking. โ€œYouโ€™ve got a girlfriend! Why pretend to care? Stop faking concern! Go fuss over her!โ€

She stomped her foot, bolted into the elevator, and mashed the close button.

Ryanโ€™s forehead creased like crumpled paper. โ€œThere she goesโ€”princess tantrum over nothing.โ€

Alarieka chuckled, patting his hand. โ€œLet go and chase her. Youโ€™ll panic if she disappears.โ€

Shi Yao pressed his lips together, his expression genuinely anxious. He slowly released Alariekaโ€™s hand and said, โ€œGo back first. Iโ€™ll find her, make sure she gets home, then come back to you.โ€

Alarieka nodded casually. โ€œGo ahead.โ€

Shi Yao quickly took off running but suddenly halted, doubling back to stand before Alarieka, his eyes fixed on her face.

โ€œArenโ€™t you mad?โ€

His tone was awkward and complicated, laced with barely suppressed anger.

Alarieka chuckled. โ€œWhy would I be mad?โ€

Shi Yao opened his mouth, his brow furrowing deeper.

Alarieka patted his shoulder. โ€œGo after her already! Sheโ€™s really getting away. Itโ€™s lateโ€”donโ€™t let that Cutie Pie wander around alone. Itโ€™s not safe. Hurry up!โ€

Irritation flickered across Shi Yaoโ€™s features. Before leaving, he blurted out, โ€œIโ€™ll be back tonight, but donโ€™t wait up.โ€

โ€œGot it. Just go.โ€

Alarieka waved him off.

Watching Shi Yao leave, Alarieka quietly sighed in relief.

This version of him felt utterly unfamiliar.

Returning home, Tamika heard the door and immediately rushed from her room. She hurried into the kitchen and brought out a bowl of sweet soup sheโ€™d prepared. โ€œEat this quick. Itโ€™ll help you sleep.โ€

Alarieka took a spoonful. โ€œI know.โ€
