Chapter 405

Tears welled in her reddened eyes, her expression fragile and pleading. โ€œShi Yao, donโ€™t leave. Stay with me?โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s expression darkened as he pushed her arms aside, his voice low. โ€œStop this.โ€

He moved past her, one hand restraining her while the other gripped the doorknob, his face nearly icy.

Xie Yingying couldnโ€™t bear his coldness. She lunged forward, wrapping her arms around his waist and burying her face in his chest, sobbing:

โ€œShi Yao, do you really not love me? We grew up together. Youโ€™ve always taken care of meโ€“everyone says so. Even friends like Patrick said you treat me differently. When I was sick, you nursed me. When my parents were away, you were there. You must love me! Those women outside are tricking youโ€“theyโ€™re cunning. Donโ€™t trust themโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI thought weโ€™d marry someday. Grandpa Shi, your parentsโ€ฆ they all adore meโ€ฆโ€ Her grip tightened desperately. โ€œShi Yao, donโ€™t do this. It hurts so much.โ€

Shi Yao frowned.

Xie Yingyingโ€™s muffled voice, thick with tears and broken by sobs, made her words hard to decipherโ€“but he knew what she meant.

He gripped her shoulders, pushing her away with measured force.

She clung fiercely. Mindful of her fragile state, he held back, failing to break free immediately.

Xie Yingying pressed her face against him. โ€œI wonโ€™t let go. Youโ€™re not leaving.โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s tone sharpened. โ€œXie Yingying. Enough.โ€

She wept. โ€œIโ€™m not being difficult. Donโ€™t scold me.โ€

Shi Yao shut his eyes briefly.

โ€œXie Yingying. Iโ€™ll count to three. If you donโ€™t release me, I wonโ€™t hold back.โ€

She shook her head violently, arms locking tighter. โ€œNever.โ€

Yao said: โ€œThreeโ€ฆโ€

โ€œTwoโ€ฆโ€

Yingying shook her head: โ€œNo.โ€

Yingying suddenly pulled Yao with force, slamming her own back against the door.

Yao clicked his tongue lightly, โ€œYingying, youโ€“โ€

All sounds abruptly ceased.

The doorknob had clicked down unnoticed earlier, unlocking the door. Pushed open by Yingyingโ€™s impact, it revealed Alaricka Hustonโ€™s startled face and her raised hand, poised to ring the doorbell.

Yaoโ€™s eyelashes flickered.

Alarieka stared at the tightly embraced pair, her gaze growing complex.

โ€œTightlyโ€ wasnโ€™t an assumptionโ€“she witnessed it firsthand. The girl in Yaoโ€™s pajamas burrowed into his embrace, arms visibly straining around his waist, pressing deep wrinkles into his sweatshirt.

The scene was truly explosive.

Alarieka had left ten minutes prior, only to learn midโ€“commute about a critical bug in the new game. Sheโ€™d doubled back to kindly remind Yao about work and offer him a ride.

Never expected this sight.

Yao and Alarieka locked eyes, Yaoโ€™s shock unmistakable.

In the heavy silence, Alarieka lowered her hand first, offering a polite smile.

Feeling guilty for interrupting, she decided to acknowledge Yaoโ€™s romance as compensation: โ€œWow, is this your girlfriend? You two look really close. Happy for you both.โ€

Yaoโ€™s eyes widened instantly. He fumbled to grip Yingyingโ€™s shoulders: โ€œNo, no, youโ€™ve got it wro-โ€

Alarieka raised a hand: โ€œItโ€™s fine. I totally understand. No need to explain. Love speaks for itself.โ€

Yingying recognized the voice instantly. Sheโ€™d never release Yao nowโ€“especially not while showing this outsider their โ€œcloseness.โ€ Her grip tightened further.

Yaoโ€™s panic became palpable.

Years of friendship meant Alarieka recognized Yaoโ€™s distress. Helpfully, she added: โ€œUmโ€ฆ Didnโ€™t mean to intrude. Just reminding you about work. New game bug emerged. Iโ€™m heading to fix it now. If I canโ€™t handle it, Iโ€™ll need your help. Soโ€ฆ try not to be late?โ€

Seeing how clingy his girlfriend was, lateness seemed inevitable.

Alarieka considered thoughtfully: โ€œHmmโ€ฆ Actually, late is okay. I get it. Take your time together first. Justโ€ฆ not too late, okay?โ€

โ€œIf that works, Iโ€™ll head out. Urgent matters. Wonโ€™t disturb you further.โ€
