Chapter 406

Yaoโ€™s ears flushed crimson.

Alarieka mistook it for embarrassment at being caught.

With that, Alarieka tactfully waved and turned to leave.

Okay?

She actually asked โ€œokayโ€?

Yaoโ€™s lungs were about to explode.

He finally stopped holding back, wrenching Yingying away.

โ€œAlarieka Huston, stop!โ€

โ€œYao.โ€

Sophia was thrown against the wall, her arm slamming hard onto the stone slab. A sharp pain shot through her as she cried out in hurt frustration.

Victorโ€™s shout didnโ€™t help; it only made Alarieka walk faster.

โ€œAlarieka!โ€

Victor gritted his teeth in anger and moved to chase her.

Sophia rushed over, grabbing Victorโ€™s arm: โ€œYou canโ€™t leave!โ€

Victor frowned and shoved her off, his voice unnaturally stern: โ€œStay right here!โ€

Sophia got pushed into the room as Victor immediately shut the door and sprinted after Alarieka.

Victor caught up and spotted the woman by the elevator, his heart instantly leaping into his throat.

He rushed over, grabbed the womanโ€™s wrist, and turned her to face him.

โ€œAlarieka.โ€

Alarieka blinked. โ€œShi Yao, what are you doing here?โ€

She suppressed a laugh. โ€œItโ€™s fine, you donโ€™t need to come with me. You should stayโ€”โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s eyes held tension as he stared intently at her. โ€œAlarieka, youโ€™ve got it all wrong.โ€

Alarieka paused for a few seconds. โ€œWhat?โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s throat tightened. โ€œXie Yingyingโ€“that girl you mentionedโ€“itโ€™s not what you think. Weโ€™re not dating. Donโ€™t misunderstand.โ€

He kept his eyes locked on Alariekaโ€™s face, searching for the slightest shift in her expression.

But he found no trace of relief or happiness there.

An indescribable weight settled in Shi Yaoโ€™s chest. โ€œAlarieka, say something.โ€

Alarieka asked, โ€œYouโ€™re not involved with her?โ€

A flicker of hope sparked in Shi Yao. โ€œNo, weโ€™re just friends. Donโ€™t get the wrong idea. I donโ€™t like her.โ€

Alarieka blinked innocently, smiling. โ€œShi Yao, thatโ€™s not fair. If you donโ€™t like her, why were you holding her? You two clung together for ages. Shouldnโ€™t you claim responsibility?โ€

Shi Yao tightened his grip on her wrist, stunned. โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€

His voice hardened as he watched her impassive face, frustration swelling in his chest. โ€œAlarieka, are you saying you want me to be with her?โ€

โ€œWhy arenโ€™t you angry? Shouldnโ€™t you be questioning me? Shouldnโ€™t you hit me?โ€

He seized her hand before she could react, slapping it against his own cheek with a sharp smack.

โ€œHit me! Go on! Why wonโ€™t you?โ€

Alarieka stared blankly, bewildered by his outburst and the sudden slap. โ€œWhat are you saying? I donโ€™t understand.โ€

As Shi Yao tried to force her hand against his face again, she yanked her palm free. โ€œShi Yao, have you lost your mind?โ€

His fringe fell over his brow, shadowing eyes that usually held depth but now brimmed with hurt as he gazed at her.

After a heavy silence, he murmured, โ€œAlarieka, how can you say that?โ€

For some reason, his eyes reminded her of a wounded puppyโ€™s.

โ€œWhat did I say? If itโ€™s not true, then I was mistaken. Stop looking at me like that. I wonโ€™t mention it again, okay?โ€

Shi Yao stepped closer, lowering his head. โ€œThinking that way about meโ€ฆ it hurts.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s mouth twitched. โ€œThen I wonโ€™t think it.โ€

Suddenly, his eyes flashed with resentment. He emphasized each word: โ€œAlarieka, Iโ€™m single. Single. Understand?โ€

Alarieka nodded rapidly. โ€œGot it. Youโ€™re single. An eligible bachelor.โ€

His resentful gaze didnโ€™t waver. โ€œIโ€™m not with anyone. She threw herself at me. I couldnโ€™t push her off. Do you get it?โ€

โ€œGot it, got it.โ€

โ€œHow could you say Iโ€™m seeing other women? You saw me hugging someone else, how could you just run off? Even said youโ€™d bless us?โ€
